A Mel Gibson joke from 4 years ago or quotes from South Park's Cartman on a twitter account with your legal name is getting people fired.

Here are Social Media basics:
* Create multiple social media accounts. The one with your legal name use only for posting pictures that would make your grandmother happy. For everything else, create accounts with a nom de plume or a stage name. Don't interact between the two, and certainly don't have one account friend the other.
* Turn on privacy filters. If they don't friend you, they shouldn't have unrestricted access to scan your account.
* Delete all social media posts more than 2 months old.

Those of you posting on twitter may TweetDelete useful.
Old Facebook posts can be deleted with Exfoliate among other tools.
