A month ago there was an article in Toronto's National Post about two firemen who made "sexist" tweets. The reporter, Kyla Garvey, went to the fire chief to complain:

Quote:Told of the tweets on Friday, David Sheen, division chief of staff services at Toronto Fire, said “I am logging it as a complaint, I am going to investigate it. To me that is not an acceptable attitude to be identified with firefighters in the City of Toronto.”

Since no crisis should go wasted, she used this as a vehicle to proclaim how generally sexist the fire department is:

Quote:Just 5.2% of Toronto Fire employees are women; visible minorities make up 4.2% of fire service employees. Most women at Toronto work in fire prevention or communications, answering 9-1-1 calls, rather than on fire trucks. Of 2,742 Toronto firefighters on fire trucks, 67 are women.

One month later, a follow-up report confirmed that the two men were fired:

Quote:Toronto Fire on Monday terminated three firefighters for what it calls breaches of the city’s policy on social media, a spokesman said Monday evening.

The firing comes one month after the National Post published a story about attempts at Toronto Fire to recruit more women and visible minorities. In that story, the Post republished just a few tweets from accounts connected to two firefighters in Scarborough.

The irony of this shit is that National Post is supposedly a right leaning newspaper but feminists are everywhere.

I read the original article by her in which she talked about the tweets and the lack of women in the service. The article even acknowledged that women need upper-body strength to pass the physical test and that is a "challenge" for many women. I am not even sure what her stupid argument is then.

The good news is that I have read some other articles and it is expected that the union should be able to save the jobs of these men. If the union sells out these men too, that would be absolutely fucking disgusting.

Ha! So she left National post and got a job at OLG which is a government agency where corruption is rife and the jobs are extremely cushy. Wonder what the hell a feminist is doing at OLG. Making the casinos more women friendly or making sure that women win as much money as men?

Edit: OLG is responsible for managing lotteries, casinos, and anything gambling related in Ontario.

I just saw her full linkedin and she got those men fired while working as an intern for two months. What will she do when she inevitably lands a full-time job at some newspaper/blog/magazine and is finding offensive, sexist, and misogynistic tweets for the rest of her life?

A girl asked me if I had twitter for the first time the other day, if I did I wonder what I would've posted there over the last couple years. I'm sure it wouldn't be good then I have my sister who online stalks me and shows stupid shit to my 70+ mother who tells me to call the internet and tell them to take stuff off, nothing bad just some old corp documents.

It's not sexist nor is it a crime to be a man. The right answer would be to hold your ground and be like "Yeah I said it ...so what". Any sign of denial or reversal will be viewed as guilt and weakness.

If I were the union president, I would not let up until the three were reinstated with full back pay - and the fire chief was fired.

Firefighters have a lot of power - they can just let a city burn.

Unfortunately we usually on get the knee jerk reaction. When the shitstorm settles and they get hired back it doesn't get reported.

Can you get fired from social media statements prior to employment, or just the offending ones after being hired?

Those firefighters were quoting TV shows. In court, how can firefighters be held responsible for stuff publicly broadcasted on national TV?

This will probably be a major court battle. We haven't heard the last of this.

As for the feminist who reported this, Kyla Garvey... time to look for ways to destroy her livelihood too.

It is unlikely she will make it as a journalist anyway. Her primary source of income for the last 4 years has been bartending. I don't know you have you have worked with those restaurant industry type people before, but if you are still bartending after you graduate from college, you tend to never get out of that gig.

I know these people too well.

100 bucks says the floor of her car is full of big mac and whopper wrappers. she is 30 lbs overwieght, but claims that she has lost 15 lbs in the past two months. She talks highly of her family, as is they are people to be respected, but given the choice between going to visit her dad on his birthday, or going out with her co-workers and getting shitfaced on stolen tequila, she is always going to get shitfaced. She hates her general manager, but she will inevitably blow him if he asks her to. She tells herself that it is job security for all the shifts that she misses when she calls in, but in reality, she really likes sucking the dick of powerful men.

100 bucks. any takers?
