I was only in Taiwan for 3 weeks and while I really enjoyed it as a trip, I didn't have many opportunities to get laid.

My brief impression is that given its location geographically, Taipei is a great stopover for the SEA backpacking scene. This means I saw loads of foreigners in Taipei just for a week, and the rest were teaching English. This gave me the feeling that the Taiwanese didn't think much of the foreign population here, especially because there were loads of hippies.

I was shocked how many schools there are that teach English. I stayed in a district where basically the whole block was English schools. This means unlike China you can get by just using your English and you still have a wide range of people to talk to.

Taipei itself didn't do much for me, maybe because I always feel like if a country has a major capital that stands out above the rest, people get a little more stuck up. I did get an SNL in Kaohsiung at a club called Dreams. I was surprised that I was basically the only foreigner in the massive club (I later learned online it's because Taiwanese beat the shit out of foreigners at that particular club). One girl was with her boyfriend and constantly while she was hugging her boyfriend she was blowing kisses to me behind his back. Before I could think of a plan to pull her away from her BF, I ended up getting this Taiwanese flight attendant who pulled me to her 5 star hotel.

I also hooked up with a Japanese backpacker who was surprised I could speak her language, and I just seem to do really well with Japanese girls in general.

Probably my favorite place in Taiwan is Hualien. It's a real small town with clean air and FRIENDLY people. I would walk down the main strip and girls would always say hello to me.

Pretty accurate. Such a small number of foreigners here, and all of them dress laughably bad. I've been the only white guy in Lava on countless occasions. And this is a club which is right next to Taipei 101. And this has been on a Saturday night. In fact, I might go there in an hour.

This isn't a place to come on holiday for a flag (unless you go to Carnegie's, Roxy or Brass Monkey on Ladies night haha). You do not get a positive exotic capital here for being a white guy. However, unlike Korea, you do not get a negative exotic capital for being a white guy (providing you don't go to a high-end club in shorts and a t-shirt).

In my opinion, this is the fishbowl of Asia. I need to stop procrastinating and write up my datasheet. It's looking huge but it got bigger this week after discovering Ladies night at Carnegies. I wanna make sure I've got everything down.

This kind of ties in with my earlier thread, since I'm also contemplating where to head after my stay in Osaka comes to an end next year. Part of me wants to remain in Japan to get more acquainted with the culture and language, while the other part of me would like to check out Taiwan, which I'm curious about and which would be good for keeping my Mandarin in good shape (right now, I'm leaning more towaards Japan, despite what I mentioned above).

Blackstock, how would you say Taipei compares to the above mentioned places in terms of a.) ease of slaying the locals and b.) quality of women?

b) The quality of women is better in Korea, mainly due to their love of cosmetic surgery. I think like half of women have it there or something crazy. Good luck trying to slay Korean women though. A quick search of this forum finds that not many people have had much luck there. You need a Korean face and Korean language skills. Koreans don't mix with non-Koreans. (Though I sucked with game back then, so take this with a pinch of salt.)

Taiwanese girls are a good runner-up though. Sometimes I walk around Zongxiao Dunghua and fall in love every minute. Long black hair, tight dresses and great legs. Taiwanese girls are beautiful.

You're speaking to a beginner. I arrived here in April, and that's when i stared learning game. Since then I've slain nine Taiwanese girls. (Note: I was out of the country for one month when I went to Thailand/Cambodia on holiday).

I have learnt everything here by being my own human guinea pig. I role solo 100% of the time and I have improved exponentially. Tonight I'm trying to get my fourth ONS in as many outings.

The expat bars are easy, though the cock-blocking is fierce. Four of my bags have been from these establishments. These are the places to go if you want that 'hoiday flag'

The high-end clubs are comparatively tough. But, if you show that you are cooler than the douchey foreigners here who dress badly and teach English, then Taiwanese girls will put out, unlike their prude Korean counterparts.

I remember walking to Luxy one night and some rich Taiwanese kid rented the whole club out for his birthday, so we couldn't get in. I don't know why I felt the need to post that, well it really rustled my jimmies at the time. Rich Taiwanese kids.....

Nine girls in four months is excellent in my book, especially if you consider yourself a beginner. The way you approach pretty much mirrors my own i.e. rolling dolo 100% of the time, using yourself as your own personal guinea pig etc. I myself wouldn't really consider myself to be someone with game as opposed to someone who simply gets laid by playing the numbers like mad, looking back and avoiding behavior that has proven ineffective.

How is the average Taiwanese girl? Better looking than mainland Chinese?

I've met a few in the States and seen pictures, most kind of struck me as looking kind of more aboriginal/slightly Filipino-ish. E.g. flatter noses, slightly darker skin, etc. Maybe I'm a picky bastard, but I prefer women with super pale skin and somewhat thinner noses, like Koreans or Northern Chinese. So I can't imagine I'd be satisfied there if most Taiwanese look like the former.

But I think I'd like the lack of rude, pushy, and loud people. And not having to worry about the Chinese government cracking down on you or tracking your internet usage.

I can only speak of the average Taiwanese girls I've met. Most I find more attractive than Mainlanders on average, mainly due to the fact that they take better care of their appearance, plus I find girls who speak Mandarin with Taiwanese accents sexy. It just sounds a lot softer than these Northern accents like Beijing or Tianjin dialects, or god forbid, Dongbeihua. Beijing-hua is considered a prestige dialect, but to me it sounds more like hillbilly English, like they're constantly chewing gum while they're talking or something. It's kinda disappointing to see a hot girl only to find she sounds like she's got a mouth full of potatoes.

The general tone of voice of Taiwanese chics just sounds a lot softer and smoother, plus they tend to have a lot more style than Mainlanders.

It's hard to give a number. Many posters here state that there are two Thailands: the pros and the RCA girls. Well, I think there are THREE Taipeis!

Type A girl: Frequently goes to clubs. Usually good looking. Has a palpable bitch shield and gets off on rejecting guys for validation. Difficulty is the same as Korea.

Type B girl: As good looking as a Type A girl but only goes to a club for special occasions, such as a birthday party. These girls don't realise their 'value', and despite their beauty they are flattered to be approached by a well- dressed foreigner.

Type C girl: The sluts. girls are easy， the Roxy ones can be hot, but they rarely reach above a rating of 7. They are well up for an ONS.

Living in Bangkok right now. Lived in China for 4 months, and I've visited Japan.

Japan was hard work dating wise. Japanese girls are pretty mysterious. And why waste your time when you can go across the sea and find way hotter Chinese girls?

China was good for a while but it's a hard place to live. The pollution is bad, food quality is a huge issue and there are people everywhere. I mean everywhere. And practically nowhere in China has a good climate.

I did well dating in China. It's a good place for marriage material. I dated a load of smart girls.

What can I say about Thailand. This ain't the place for smart girls. But it's kind of fun being here. Just been people watching in Nana, then to a gogo bar in Soi Cowboy. Every guy sitting next to me agreed that the pole dancing girl on the mini stage beside us was a 10! Hmm, I've rarely seen guys agree about a girl before.

Also ED visas are cheaper here - China is a pain in the ass to get a long stay visa for if you don't want to do the whole English teaching thing.

Best thing is to spend at least 3 months in each country.

I just checked a dating website in Taipei and the girls look EXACTLY the same as Thai girls on dating websites, just loads of generic 5+6's.

Maybe they just lifted them from a Thai website - they look identical!

Can someone give a breakdown of costs of living in Taipei? Rent, location, what you get for money, taxis food costs and quality etc.

Just to be clear, this dichotomy is a bit off.

It's more like there is Group A) pros and hard-core farang chasers (a definite minority but in the mind of most farangs all that exists) and Group B) the rest of Thai women. RCA just contains a handful of nightclubs, among the thousands upon thousands across the country, that cater to mainstream Thais rather than farangs.

I find this common to many countries actually; world travel is so common these days that it doesn't take a particularly adventurous person to do it. So what you get are a lot of people who come to a place for a few days and never leave the tourist centers (hell, some people stay for years and rarely do). The thailand tourist scene is just particularly debacherous so the entire country gets a reputation for debauchery.

Anyways, I've gone on a rant - not directed at you. Taiwan sounds awesome. I definitely think I could live there and it's on my top 5 list, easily. Looking forward to hearing more about the scene there.

^^^Leighton seems to be enjoying Zhonxiao Dunhao. I stayed there and detailed my week-trip.

I killed it in Taiwan but I ran abs buckwild in Thailand (albeit w/some shoring). I did a full write-up and trip reports on the Taiwan thread and detailed my experiences in the Thai challenge thread by Asaxon.

Quite frankly, I would skip any place that everybody "raves" about. The experience you get is Disney-land-esque- fairytale perfect on the surface, but grimy and tourist-scammy as you inspect closer. BKK was especially guilty of this, but it is such a large metropolis that its easy to avoid as long as you stay off Sukhumvit (main tourist area). Problem is that Thais speak such shitty English that youd never want to leave Sukhumvit, because that would mean huge logistical headaches.

In terms of general safety (which doesn't apply to pick-up), extremely safe. Safer than Seoul, and Seoul's really safe. You could probably walk around here at 4am shouting "Somebody take my wallet" and no one would do it. Not once have I walked past a pack of 'shady looking people' or had to look over my shoulder. I'm from Southampton (England), so the difference in atmosphere on the streets at night is extraordinary. Note: this applies to Taipei, I've heard Kaohsiung is a little different.

In terms of safety to do with pick-up. Still very safe. A world apart from Korea's jealous cock-blockers.

Let me detail a couple of experiences I've had in each country, to give an insight, before I give a summary.

Korea:

1) I remember walking hand-in-hand with a blonde Korean girl towards the beachfront in Ulsan. (Korean girls are a headache, I think you have to be 'more beta' with them, either way I gave up with them after I got the flag).

In the distance, to the left, there must have been at least 14 high-school boys (about sixteen/seventeen years old) play-fighting on the concrete structures on the pier. When they saw us approach, they all froze and STARED. I heard one of them say "WOW" and I heard other murmurs which indicated genuine confusion. It wasn't aggressive, but it showed the rarity of this sight for Korean men. They were gobsmacked .

2) I remember at night in the built up area of Ulsan, my friend asked two girls for directions to a 'good bar'. They seemed pretty flattered at the approach (my friend is incredibly good-looking for a start).

They happily showed us the way and we walked for about five minutes through the busy streets. Literally the entire way, Korean men cocked their heads aggressively at us. It was like Moses walking through a parted sea of angry jealous cock-blockers, I've never seen anything like it.

3) Just countless occasions where Korean men in the nearby vicinity would angrily 'monitor' the situation when you're talking to a Korean girl. I've had guys interrupt my conversation, hug me and the girl I'm dancing with, and generally just try and keep me 'off to the side' at a club.

Summary:

Korean guys get JEALOUS. They view Korean girls as 'their women'. They hate white guys approaching 'their women' and they will do anything to stop it. This phenomenon is annoying as a Korean woman then feels under even more social pressure to reject you, just to save face. It's bullshit.

Then again, I've seen this in other countries, including my own. It's unfair to just hate on Korea because I'm a bitter white guy. If a Polish fruit-picker tries to talk to an English girl in Southampton, he will get cock-blocked the shit out of by the English guys in the room, as his place in English society is perceived as 'too low' for him to be allowed to talk to such a girl.

In Korea, your value as a western man is akin to a Polish fruit-picker in England, or any club's resident Indian Race Troll. You have NEGATIVE exotic capital.

Taipei:

1) I went onto the dance floor at Lava and began to dance. After about a minute, a group consisting of three Taiwanese girls and two Taiwanese guys came over. They were smiling. One of the guy's planted his female friend in my arms. The rest of the group put their thumbs up as if to say "here you go". I danced with her for about ten seconds, then the other female friend grabbed my hand and planted it on the girl's ass. She then winked, put her thumb up again, and the rest of the group moved away. Madness. This would never happen in Korea.

2) I got my flag here on my second visit to Luxy. I was standing on the edge of the dance floor and a girl comes up to me and says "Do you want to dance?". This would never happen in Korea, there is no mixing of genders in Korean nightclubs! It's like a school disco (expect maybe Itaewon).

On other occasions girls have come up to me on their own accord and have started conversation or have tried to make out with me. It's not hugely common, it maybe happens one in every three/four nights out here. But again, this would never happen in Korea, no matter how ugly or desperate the girl is. The Confucianist cock-blocking society is against her in Korea.

3) I was leaving the club and heading towards a taxi. I had a pretty bad night in Myst and had only got some meager number-closes. I literally opened the damn door of the taxi when some guy taps me on the shoulder from behind and says "Hey! my friend likes you!". He then walks me to his friend who was standing outside the FamilyMart about twenty metres behind us. Then he just walks off and leaves me to talk to her alone. She was a cute, delicate little 19 year-old. I talked to her for a minute, number closed her, took some photos with her, gave her a hug and went on my way. Nothing came of it unfortunately. But once again, this would never happen in Korea. Korean guys are too jealous to let a girl talk to a western guy that she likes.

Summary:
Taiwanese guys are friendly. They do not view Taiwanese girls as 'their woman'. They know that they have no right to step in without great justification. I have personally not seen a single instance of cock-blocking in a club here. They are more than accommodating. I've had some awesome dance-offs with some of these guys, they're great fun. A lot of them don't even approach, so they just kinda 'blend in' if I'm honest.

It may be different if you're a poorly-dressed backpacker with no charm, though (which no one on this forum is). I think they would cock-block if they saw some loser in baggy cargo shorts try and grab their friend on the dance floor.

Winston Wu

In regards to Winston Wu, well I am amazed at just how negative his account is. I think there is something iffy about him. I don't know much about this guy, so apologies if I say anything stupid. Is this guy into game? who is he?

Anyway, here's what I think. Firstly, he doesn't look particularly handsome or well-dressed, I think these two count for something in Taiwan, as the guys here dress VERY well in clubs. Taiwanese guys are very fashionable. Expect Korean style shirts, smart shoes and blazers.

Secondly, He seems to constantly mention how Taiwanese girls don't like his 'political and social unorthodoxy', or something along those lines. He reminds me of the English teachers here who go to clubs and say "Look man, we are white GODS here! the girls will come-a-runnin' bro' ". Then they are confused why they always leave the place empty-handed after three months of going there. You have to adapt here and remove any ego. I used to think I had exotic capital as a white guy here, then I realised I didn't and it GREATLY helped me.

His account of Taipei is not completely off though. This is where I stress the importance of the 'Three types of Taiwanese girls' I have previously mentioned. His account is based on the 'Type A' girls. These girls are COLD. There are countless occasions where I have gone up to these girls (whilst suited up to the nines) and I have said "Hello" or whatever and they have COMPLETELY ignored me. They will just continue their conversation or just stare into space. They won't even look at you. Happened MANY times. If his account is based on these girls, then it's very accurate.

Also, it's worth stating. There are some blogs on the internet which state that Taipei is an EASY place for girls. These are typically written by loser English teachers here. This is not true, and it is not a holistic insight into the city. Most English teachers here say that Taiwan is an 'easy place for girls'. But these guys only go to Roxy, Carnegie's and The Brass Monkey. Or they go to Babe 18 and take home a 5/10 or sometimes a 6/10. I've had friends of mine say that "They had a date last night" with a "really hot girl" and I've gotten jealous and questioned my game, then they've showed me the photo and my brain starts laughing uncontrollably. One guy said that "he was talking to a model on Skout". He showed off the photo to my friends and everyone (apart from me) high-fived the guy, even though he hadn't even met her! She didn't even look like a girl I would approach at 3.30am in a club.

I think if you're a guy with no game here, you can get a 6/10 every few months without much effort (although usually these girls are found online or at the dive bars). This is much better than what a lot of the teachers here were getting at home, so they tend to exaggerate how good it is for them. It is a good place, but I wouldn't have gotten my results without the game I learnt, my style and my high number of approaches.

Cheers Leighton for the informative post. How about body shape with Taiwanese vs Koreans? Here in Oz I see a lot of Korean girls who have nice thick (not fat) legs but most have flat chests. However having said that I do see a quite a few tall Korean girls (5'7" +) Korean girls look hot but the xenophobic attitude really bugs me so it really makes me wonder if it's worth the bother with them- they seem to think Korean guys are superior and are the only kind of guy suitable for them.

Wow so Korea is really that bad hey? I knew Koreans to be racists by how they are and behave here but didnt know they were even worst in their country!

Regarding Winston, he is a non gamer, older and fat kind of guy not necessarily the stylish nor the most handsome for sure. Someone on his forum described him as a looking like Chinese cab driver in mainland China, so not the most flattering description but on point.

How does one avoid those type A girls? I mean, where do they hang out to avoid these spots and focus instead on the type B girls? What would be the best strategy for getting A type girls? Social circle? Mutual friends introducing you?

Another thing: on a episode of the tv show House Hunters International they did on Taiwan, the guy, an english teacher was shown decent aparts in the 150-220$/month! How much would a nice pad in the heart of the action go for? Is it similar to BKK price wise where sweet places can be had for about 1k/month?

Great info on Korea and Taiwan,

It's odd, I've always had fairly positive experiences with Korean students living abroad. Especially the Koreans studying or traveling here in Japan have been incredibly outgoing and friendly, always inviting me to hang out with them and whatnot. I even remember an occasion where a Korean guy, after finding out I can read hangeul, jokingly said I should get a Korean girlfriend (was likely just kidding), while two other Korean friends of mine in Osaka said I'd kill it in Korea, saying the girls are into White guys (though I've learned to take all claims like that with a bit of salt, of course). Maybe Koreans act differently abroad, or could it be that people from Seoul are particularly unfriendly towards foreigners???

I met a Korean guy here in Bangkok who told me if I went to teach English in Seoul (it was a topic being discussed in my guesthouse at the time) that by being a teacher, I would be regarded as at the highest level in Asian society. As a result of this, and because I was white, girls would be falling over themselves to date me.

He then told me that as a teacher, and holding such a lofty position that I must promise him I would not abuse my power and never date these girls!

I don't think English teachers fall into the same category as other teachers unless you teach at university level. They don't really have the best reputations in Asia
