Such a legendary game - and a real bond among men.

The fighting game culture and fighting game community are one of the few purely male spaces left - a real legit meritocracy.


How do I know? For a while, I was one of the best Soul Calibur players in the world. Yes, there are many videos of me on youtube kicking ass under my non manosphere "alter ego". Because of fighting games, I made some of the best friends in my life and actually got to travel to places.

Lets show our respect to the game and to the culture

How it evolved from legendary, but small gatherings that left us with lasting memories:




How now every year it breaks its own record for weekend events and this year over $100,000 dollars was donated to charity by various gaming communities JUST to get their game at the biggest tournament of the year.

Man this games a classic. Sagat and vega were the hardest to beat imo. My fav guys were blanka, Ehonda and dhalsim.

I always thought they made Chun Li the fastest (besides Vega in the later versions where you could use him) so girls could win, lol.

You could beat even the best Ryu/Ken by getting them trapped in the corner and tripping a lot, then jump over them to use the push move.

Guile was the best. Especially for SF2. Who remembers the invisible throw and freeze?

I played both SF and Mortal Kombat. Both for different reasons. MK for the gore and creativity, such a radical difference between MK1 and MK2 for example.

However for depth of gameplay, SF ran circles around MK. The frame animations, differences in priority, etc. MK was so primitive in that regard.

Ken and Ryu were those most played-out, cliche choices for the game. I would always roll my eyes when someone would (surprise, surprise) pick one of them, then proceed to destroy them. This brings me great joy to this day. There were only like two ways to use them:

1. Tons of hadoukens and then upper-cuts if you jump over them.

2. Jump high into the opponent with a big kick, then little jabby kicks down low.

What a couple of punk-bitch-ass-pussy characters.

In the later editions of the game--where you could play online--it got so boring to have to beat six or seven Ryus in a row, because dudes just default to that shit.

Best arcade game of all time. I was a wizard in the early 90s on this, one quarter with any of the characters save for maybe E Honda/Dhalsim I could win the game. The game had its own culture to it, I've never seen a hotter arcade game among the youth

we would play at the mall, at Aladdin's Castle, for money. My buddy would play and win tournaments, he was one of the best. I taught my daughter how to play. She tells everyone how much she loves the game, they think I am crazy. Instead of Dora or My Little Pony apps on my ipad all she does is play SF4 and wins. You should see the looks.

SF2 came out in the early 90s pre-internet, so the nuances of the game had to be learned firsthand. I remember the arcade unit in my neighborhood DID NOT have any combos guides posted on the unit, as is commonplace nowadays.. Pre-internet that meant you had to take the bus, or get your mom to take you to the mall to get the strategy guide.

For YEARS I had no idea how to do the dragon punch. Obviously no one in the neighborhood is going to tell me how, because they'd be jeopardizing their chances of winning.

Also, since we were broke-assed pre-teens no one bought the strategy guides, and we never learned the true names of the special moves. The dragon punch? I still call it the "OH YOU CAN!" punch.

Yeah, some of the combos in that game are really tough to pull off even when you know them. Discovering them on your own is nigh impossible.

Cool video. I watched the entire thing. I loved this game but I also loved Mortal Kombat. I swear I rented Mortal Kombat 3 about 25 times...my parents would let me rent one game a weekend so instead of buying I just rented it over and over. Some of the fatalities and stuff in MK were just about impossible to pull off even if you knew what buttons to push. That level of difficulty created a certain mystique about the game that games now rarely have.

Are you in Northern California? I will fuck Zangeif up with Ken in the arcade game. And most guys playing Blanka too. The 5% of guys who could beat me as Ken I would switch to Guile who can pretty much beat anyone/ any character.

A few thoughts.

1) Depsite going through my hormonal late teens and early twenties playing this game it never once crossed my mind to jerk off to Chun Li. I am now slightly ashamed about this fact.

2) I could routinely beat everyone in the arcade using Dhalsim. It got so easy after a while that I would literally play with my hand behind my back and still win.

I'm not, but I'm a Blanka or Guile man. I sometimes fucks with Chun Li or Sakura (later versions) too, just to switch it up.
