If you've used Google Maps before to make maps with a list of locations of interest, you know it's awful. I discovered this website batchgeo.com, where you can make maps very simply. You put your locations in a spreadsheet, with labeled columns, and then paste it in and it does it automatically.

I took the data sheet McQueen just posted on Hollywood, along with the addresses of the venues, plus a couple venues he didn't mention, and made a map out of it. Click on the pins to see the descriptions.

PS: I love how the hottest clubs have almost no Yelp reviews. Just goes to show Yelp reviewers are a bunch of dorks.

PS: I love how the hottest clubs have almost no Yelp reviews. Just goes to show Yelp reviewers are a bunch of dorks.

I completely disagree about Google Maps being awful. I mean, when I travel I input all the places, along with whatever notes I want, and then it loads on my phone instantly and I can see where I am in relation to the places of interest at all times.

This seems good because you can input them all right away rather than input one by one, but how does it help me in a foreign country while walking streets I don't know, or in the back of a cab who is trying to rip me off for every nickel he can and I cant see where the hell I am?

Does this integrate with Google Maps somehow so I can see the maps loaded in relation to my location?

Not sure if I'm understanding you guys correctly but it's fully possible to put down pins in Google maps. I do it every time I travel to some new place.
Can't put up my own maps I've created like this with notes and all as they have a bunch a private information but here's an example I used this April when I was in NYC. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=204...7,0.264187

Couldn't agree more about this deficiency. Seems completely elementary for Google to add this feature.

@Vicious- He means if you are walking around and see a place which you don't already have mapped, you can't just drop a pin on the current location to save it. You have to input the address basically and save it that way. The one alternative which works reasonably well is that any location can be saved as a 'starred' location. This gives you the point of reference for later, but doesn't let you save any notes on it.

The simple drop a pin feature is truly the ONE and only thing that I can think of that Iphone has and Android doesn't. The rest are either not useful, or marketing ploys on Apples part to seem like they trail blazing when most of the time they are not. For example, I was talking to my Android for well over a year before Apple came with Siri.

Batchgeo is using google map's API. What I like about Google maps though is that I can entire the data on my computer at home and it automatically syncs to my phone and it's there. Does Batchgeo do this?

Yeah you're using this differently than I would be. If you're walking around, you're not going to use this site to create a map. But if you're at a computer, and want to organize a map, it's way easier. I used it yesterday to map out a series of venues that I wanted to hit - I wasn't sure how far apart they were, where they were in relation to each other, and so on. This is more for planning beforehand or classification afterwards (like the link I posted), rather than on the fly recording.

I've used Google Maps before to create basically the same thing, but it's very laborious and snafus always seem to pop up, with duplicate pins, difficulty in editing, and so on. I'm guessing Google never really made money off that feature, or even tried to, so they gave up on making it user friendly. Batch geo, once you figure out how to format your spreadsheet correctly, is very easy. Also, you can continue to edit it. I have a URL for editing the data sheet above.

This is also super easy to edit and update. Don't have to navigate Google Maps' shitty interface. If you have to edit more than one venue at a time, the interface really gets in the way.
