New brouhaha surrounding Richard Dawkins is developing--Berkeley Event With Richard Dawkins Cancelled Over 'Hurtful Speech' About Islam.

While he was slamming Christianity, he was the Darlin' of the left. As soon he did the same thing to Islam, he suddenly is not welcome.

Dawkins is actually an extremely good example of why being smart in a certain area doesn't make you learned or a particularly valuable contributer in another domain.

He has poured some of the nastiest bile of any celebrity, for that's what he is, on Brexit and those who chose to vote for it. He manages to consistently find himself on the wrong side of a lot of arguments, largely because he has convinced himself that his celebrity allows him to wax lyrical on subjects he knows little about.

There has, in fact, been something of a feminist revolution in Islam. A particularly courageous woman named Huda Shar'arawi was an Egyptian feminist nationalist, who, after WWI, was heavily involved in Egyptian politics, and a significant figure in the 'Nahda' as the Arabs call it - a short lived cultural rebellion that did come close to liberating the Egyptian Arabs from the worst excesses of Islam. However, like all such movements throughout the history of Islam (and it's littered with them), it was quickly suppressed and expunged by the theocrats.

Far better, as a start, than some feminist revolution, would be the removal of the death penalty for apostasy across the Arab world. Dawkins either knows very little about Arab history, or is, as he usually does, toeing the authoritarian Year Zero line that he feels so comfortable with.

I won't be shocked at all to see atheists go conservative in the next 20 years or so. This will certainly turn them away from the left. Plus, a lot of atheist activists are Jews. They aren't sympathetic to Islam at all.

When atheists are protesting a nativity scene on public property, the left loves them. But this is a different story because of the Progressive Hierarachy of Oppressed Peoples (PHOOP). Muslims are more important victims than atheists, so that is why Muslims get the nod here.

It would be even more admirable to see some of these high-profile atheists like Dawkins going after Judaism, which is also a supremacist religion. The reaction would be hilarious to watch.

Like do a documentary where they go into a Lubavitcher neighborhood and talk to some of those guys to reveal their beliefs

Christopher Hitchens often bashed Islam. People at the Ayn Rand Institute have also been very critical of Islam.

Dawkins NEVER cucked to Islam. I've seen plenty of instances of him bashing Islam and Muslim clerics along the years. Even went so far as interviewing some extremists of the sort. That criticism is void.
