I tend to believe OP. I found PP to be an incredibly small city for 2 million people, especially when it comes to hostel/trashpacker living. Her finding him doesn't surprise me much. Definitely amateur behavior in the club though.

OP - any details on where you were staying / where you moved to?

There isn't a country in the world where it's all hookers all the time. There are just certain countries where foreigners tend to only associate with the lowest fringes of society. It sounds like OP was trying his best to avoid that, but he may or may not have gotten what he didn't want anyways. There are also countries where mainstream women are less likely to sleep around - or in some cases just less likely to sleep around with foreign men.

It takes more work and/or game to get non-pros, as usual, but there are plenty of them here.

True or false, the moral of the story is while abroad, show some respect to the locals, keep your arrogance in check, be willing to compromise and avoid conflict at all costs. You will never win against a local. He has the "law" and time on his side. In some cases you might even win but you have to consider the ROI (in term of time, money, opportunity cost)
When faced with a situation like this, negotiate your way out and learn from it. During one of my trip to Guadalajara, Mexico (I know the city well), a cab driver overcharged me for about (100 Pesos = $10). I told him what the correct fare should have been but paid anyway. Lesson learned: in the future ,I will ask how much he charges as soon as I get in the cab. If the fare seems unreasonable, I will politely ask him to put the meter on.
