The reason he does this is simple: he knows that if he is a man, he will serve the full 35 years in jail.

While, if he becomes a woman, a woman will probably be released after serving 5 times less time
in jail: probably maximum 7 years

If psychiatric pharmacology is unable to help him, then by all means let him wear women's clothing and call himself whatever he wants (though this is inadvisable in prison - where it seems he will be spending the rest of his life). I heard somewhere that the LGBT used their political infuluence to shorten the legth of time one must be psychologically screened before being given the green light to initiate gender change. LGBT apparently stated that the previous length was discriminatory and prevented indivudals from being who they truly are.

Anyone else hear this and have a source?

Wanted to bump this.

Manning apparently tried to commit suicide.

One thing that arises from this - was this "attempted" suicide brought up on by the government.

Or is this from mental instability this person has.

We've talked time and time again about the suicide rates among LBGT members.

What do you all think ?

He got 35 years and HRC gets nada... This "attempt" in all actuality is a great way to draw attention back to himself (herself?) and shoot for an early release. And he's got the tranny thing going for him now too. He'll be free soon enough.

For years people have been making comparisons between the two of them. Like this article from last year: "Chelsea Manning and Hillary Clinton: A Case of Double Standards/Hillary’s private server is ok, but Chelsea’s “crimes” get her solitary."

I wonder how many people in the mainstream media will link this suicide attempt to Clinton getting off scot-free? I've seen people on social media mention it. It's a travesty of justice that Manning will spend most of his/her life in prison for basically the same thing.

Ordinary people should really give this more thought. Manning's gender identity is confusing the issue. The fact is that there really is a double-standard of justice and if you're on the wrong side of it, watch out.

Manning shouldn't be the only one in prison for his actions. It made it clear that it was completely unstable and shouldn't have been in a position to have access to such material. It's supervisors ignored it's complaints. They saw the writing on the wall and ignored the problem.

The Army has egg on its face with this case. Manning sent a video to his commanding officer informing him that he was batshit crazy, but they still deployed him and put him in a position in which he had access to classified communications. Big fuck up.

The military's medical corps actually has a fairly good mental health department. Plenty of psychologists and psychiatrists on staff. Manning should be getting fairly good treatment there at Leavenworth. Guess it isn't good enough because he's too far gone.
