I am off to Poland next and just realized my passport is expiring in about 8 weeks.

I was looking at the US State Department site and it said "Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay. "

I will be back before my passport expires. Am I going to be ok?

It says should and not must be.

If anyone has dealt with this before, I'd appreciate any insight you may have.

Pay that rush fee of $100-$150 and get you new passport in less than a week.

yep that is the best move.

Most countries won't allow you to come if your passport is expiring within 3 months I think - certainly Russia. I assume the EU is like this too but could be wrong. Wouldn't risk it in any case.

Thailand wouldn't let me go once because my passport was expiring less than 6 months from my entry.

Definitely get a new passport before you go. I was able to get a rush one in a week.

Thanks everyone - after my post started searching around. Looks like I can get it in 48 hours.

48 hr is un-necessary. Rush job will get it back to you in 3-4 weeks via standard routes. Dbl check via US passport office.

Def. get a new passport though.
