Hello all

I live in Belgium. I have a well paying job and a flat, actually i have everything i want. Nevertheless, i do not have a girlfriend and i have some trouble finding one. I do have girls around me, i have regular sex but nothing of that is stable enough to constitute as a serious relationship (the girls are often not staying in the country, exchange students for example).

I was planning to change cities in Belgium (from shitty to Brussels to young and hip Antwerp with great nightlife) because i have some work-possibilities there.

Now, by means of a headhunter i have an offer to work at a big multinational bank in Krakow, Poland. The job offer is just OK, but i could do better in Belgium. Hence, in terms of carreer, money and what have you, the move wouldn't be justified. The only reason why i am still doubting the offer is: girls. I could have a good life there with many opportunities to date hot and nice women.

Is moving to poland only for the motive of girls (serious relationship, sex, etc) a reason enough to accept the offer?

Would i be smarter staying in belgium and travel to poland to find the right girl for me there?

Additional question: Is it possible to find a girlfriend in poland by travelling there for holidays? (note: i have about 45 holidays a year).

Better go to Poland in my opinion.Comparing West and East is like comparing gold to shite.You will satiet all your penis demands in Poland while in Belgium you will be full of chocolate.

I stay in Germany and travel to Poland often (6 hours to all major cities) however it is very tiring and cannot be compared to the guy who lives there.
Of course you can find a polish girl for holidays everyone has one but this is not the point.

With all the other aspects in life sewn-up then you can make decisions to move a bit later on. If you go to Krakow solely for girls, then if it doesn't go to plan, all you will feel is resentment for the place anyway.

Dude, OP, it's not like you live in America where the cost of a flight is 600 or more dollars. You can fly to Poland for peanuts and see if you like it. Its like an hour or two flight.

Move to Poland while you're still young and enjoy the women, the parties, friendliness of the locals, and the relatively low cost of living (compared to Brussels). In case you need an example, this cool cat whom I met earlier this year took an 80% pay-cut and moved from London>Warsaw to become the local reporter.

For the record I am in Kamaki and BCZ's camp in that you should just go, money isn't everything, women are quite important in overall quality of life, Poland has a cheaper cost of living, etc. but a few questions:

1) can't you leverage your experience in an EE bank and eventually return home? Most banks I've worked at highly value EM experience and you can move around (or find work back home later at another bank). In any case I don't think you're 'dooming' your career by working at a big multinational bank in Poland for a few years - if anything it should expand your skillset and make you more marketable as you get more senior.
2) how much Euros/$$s are you really giving up after taxes? Assume Belgium's tax bite is bigger than Polands; is the new salary really that much lower after taxes compared to your current one?
3) will you be earning Euros or Zloty there? (and what's your views on that currency?) How do rents in Krakow compare to Brussels? (lower, right?)
4) do you still get similar vacation time/benefits at the new job?
5) will you be working significantly more hours in the new job than current position? (probably at first you will, but maybe less later after you establish yourself?)
6) if you own your current apt., can't you just rent out your place in Belgium while you are away and earn some income there?

Careers are overrated these days, banks will fire you on a whim (I know) and it seems that you are tempted to go and need a change. You said yourself you're thinking of moving to Antwerp, so assuming the answers to the questions above put the new Polish job opportunity in a decent light, why not make it Poland since you've got the offer?

Do it. You re v young, you can always move back, do an mba, etc. you'll be a king in poland, you ll learn a new language, perspective, etc. its not like you quitting your job to become a surfer. I did the same thing and never looked back.

I've never been to Poland and I've seen quite a few people mention the warmth of the locals, and tbh, this confuses me
Perhaps people living in Poland are warmer than those that travel abroad to work?
Cos I've got to say, here in Ireland, the Polish(women in particular, most of the men are fine) are the surliest, rudest, race I've come across
Anytime I experience rudeness or ignorance in a shop/cafe/restaurant/hairdresser, 90% of the time it's a Polish woman
It feels like an entitlement complex of sorts, like they feel they can behave as they want, as there will always be Irish beta men who will salivate over them, (cos they're often tall, leggy and more attractive than the locals), no matter how much rude or bitchy behaviour they display
I don't have this experience with any other race or nationality in Ireland!
Sure some of them look good, better than the natives for sure, but I would never tolerate this kind of attitude in a woman, for anything more than a quick pump 'n dump

1) Yes i can. But i could equally leverage my Belgian experience into Poland in 1 to 2 years, earn much more in Poland and live like a king there.
2) Quite a lot. I will give you numbers. I earn now 1850€ after tax. I would earn 4500 PLN (zloty) after tax in Krakow. In Euro that would be 1125 €. Cost of living is lower of course. In terms of savings: i can safe up to 400 € sometimes 500€/month. In Poland i would be able to save about 200€, maybe 250€ max, and then i would have to be careful with my expenses, while in Belgium i do whatever i want (going out, eating out , etc).
3) Zloties.1 euro = 4 zloties.
4) No, it would be much less. I get 45 days, there i would get 25 at most. I have vacation allowances, there i would not have it. Here i have pension schemes, there i would not have it. Here my home-work transportation is totally covered by employer, there it would not.
5) I am now working 9 to 5, sometimes even less. It is still to be seen how much i would have to work there, but it will be for sure more (much more).
6) I do not own, so it's not an issue

In sum: i would work more, earn less, have less holidays, have less standard of living (take care what i spend), and probably in terms of carreer the same possibilities as in belgium, if not less.

Giving up all of that just for pussy? I am not sure.

The reason i want to move to Antwerp is because i hate Brussels.

With my salary i earn in Belgium i am the king when i travel to Poland. Working there this would be no longer the case.

Yeah, now that I've read OPs comparisons I'm thinking this might be a better solution than moving to Poland. Throw Poznan in there too.

I mean 20 more days of vacation, lots more money + a 9-5 schedule in Belgium where you have existing political capital and seniority at work versus 10-15 more hours per week in Poland and way less vacation are big differences in terms of quality of life. For me now, quality of life equates mostly to time away from work first, women second, and then the other stuff.

If you're working a full-time job in EE with significantly longer hours than a 9-5 job (like I am in Moscow) it becomes a bit of a different thing that what a lot of guys are typically doing on these EE and Asian jaunts. The set corporate schedule means less free time & flexibility and added stress which eventually means less time chasing ladies. I think that would be true anywhere.

So even if you went to Krakow you'd basically be looking at Thursday night and weekends out only I think. At least that's what it's like for me here. Although I have grand aspirations of gaming 24-7, going out 3-4 nights 'on the hunt' a week etc. with my busy work schedule it just doesn't happen. However, I do a lot of mid-week dates , so obviously being on the ground is more optimal, but in your case if you're making was less money and can't live like a king like you can in Belgium it makes a difference.

So although being on the ground is always optimal, in your case I think you have some good reasons for not going, and perhaps moving at a later time. Win-win situation for you here in any event I think!
