Lots of times these entertainers and athletes get burned by lack of cash flow, bad investments. The liabilities stack up and you end up bankrupt/broke.

I am sure DMX made $20 million at least during his music career but lighting a bunch of it on fire with over-consumption, crap investments and you can find yourself broke in no time. Also, there are instances where filing for bankruptcy is a tactic to get out of the child support payments that are pegged towards your peak earnings. If I recall, 50 Cent attempted the same thing.

He is currently serving a year in prison for tax fraud.

I actually met him once. I believe it was circa Halloween 2009. I was exiting a rooftop nightclub / lounge in Chicago dressed up as The Joker from the Dark Knight and he was on his way up into the joint with a mini crew. He was actually super humble & cool as F. People in my crew that night got a picture with him I'm pretty sure.

Child support isn't dischargeable via bankruptcy, like student loan debt.

Let's not forget that DMX has/had a raging drug habit...every time he gets arrested cops are confiscating about a dozen crack rocks off his person.

Let's do the math bad investments + drug addiction + not releasing new music(his sole source of income) = bankruptcy
