Looking down on self-improvement
Why is it that some guys think that if you werent one of the cool guys to begin with youll never be accepted as one no matter how much you improve. Seems like a bitch ass move to me. Just read a post from a member calling out another member on a post he made about having depression once. Got me thinking and ive seen this not only on the forum, but i mean we are all into bettering ourselves, eventually we all look back and realize how much we have grown and learned over the years, not everyone starts off at the same place so it kinda sucks being called out for it. Anyway thoughts?

Ignore them, remove them from your circle... if that doesnt work then try putting them down too, works wonders if you nail what the person is really insecure about

RE: Looking down on self-improvement
Off topicish but still relevant:
I knew a guy in high school whom I'd play video games with. (He's borderline obese) He started hitting up the gym and well, I was already in shape. He would start giving me crap because I didn't go to the gym (I've played soccer my whole life) and tell me how I should quit playing video games because he did. Pretty much this guy is/was a hypocrite because he used to play video games and would hate on other people just because he didn't do what they did/quit what they did (video games).

Recently, I added a book to my FB profile and the guy commented on the activity with "Since when do you read."

I honestly wanted to tell him to f off but I kept my cool and didn't reply.

On Topic:
Block the negative people from your life. No one should be around someone who's going to give off negative vibes. Delete their number from your phone, delete them off of FB, etc.

RE: Looking down on self-improvement
You should strive to be hated.

As you become more successful in life, more people will start to hate on you. These haters are normally the people you grew up with that still live in your hometown working some lower class job living pay check to pay check to provide for his high school sweetheart that never fails to put on 10 lbs a year. They can also be people in your social circle or work network that see you starting to outperform them. They are jealous of your success, and that is what you want.

Think about it like this. You ever see someone hating on a gas station cashier due to jealousy? No. You ever see someone hating on an educated professional quitting his job to focus on a business venture full time? Yes.

In my case, I knew a few people that think everything was handed to me. "Silver spoon" is what they call me. It's amazing how every single new achievement in my life was "handed to me" even though I have been living on my own since I was 17. Classic hater-ism. Nothing to worry about.

When they really start to annoy me its always fun to game their girlfriends out from underneath them.

God'll prolly have me on some real strict shit

Definitely true, and also true with family members who can be the most lethal. What I've found is that when they find out something good has happened to me, they find a way to reframe it to make it seem bad. I choose my friends well so I rarely have problems with hate in this regard, but you don't get to choose your family, and this is where I find it the worst.

Days of Broken Arrows and AntiTrace are spot on. Family really tries to shit test you and pull you down, and they frame it as "just joking" or "just trying to be funny" or "why are you so serious?" Yeah....I got your joke right here.

People are threatened when you change and shift, especially when you make a noticeable change and start to succeed. You don't need them to understand or validate it; you need to make them get out of your fucking way (one way or another).

RE: Looking down on self-improvement
The best skill this forum taught me is, "Agree and amplify"

I used to do this when i got made fun of growing up. I didn't realize it was an effective tool in shutting people down.

I went through a rough batch of depression when i was in college. I was getting a lot of shit talked about me behind my back. I was raised believing that if i'm the odd man out (eg everyone not liking me) than I must be wrong.

Essentially, you can be correct and alone or not speak up and fit in.

Betas which are essential men and 95% of women hate men who better themselves and climb up. Don't let some bullshit like what my mother said to me stick. Be the only person standing. Everyone else's attitude of mediocrity can suck it.

RE: Looking down on self-improvement
You should be so focused on self improvement that you don't even notice people looking.

Why is your focus on haters?

Focus on your goals.

RE: Looking down on self-improvement
@Gio- because its lonely to focus on your goals. Most of the satisfaction of early goals is so that you can get a "trophy" or "compliment" or "validation from females".

It makes a lot of sense from those starting out.

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

Agree completely.

People eventually learn to weed out the negative ppl and haters in their lives, but it can be a difficult shock at first when the BS comes from ones once closest to them.
