Hi guys I'm joining a speed dating event next week (first time for kicks), do you have any links or advice on how to best approach it?

I've been thinking of doing this soon too.. just for "kicks" and some practice. Let us know how you make out!!!

A few things I've contemplated just to be completely different/off-the-wall:

1) have a "run-on sentence" with the answers to the typical "who you are, what you do"... of course, the answers will be a bit "skewed" with some cocky humor, etc. Rhyme off the sentance without breaking for her to say something and when done, reply with something saying "now that the formal stuff is out of the way, we talk about something interesting.."

2) another idea I thought of was a "score-card" type idea... let her know she's being scored on her answers to various questions.

3) the two of you look around and 'bet' on who is going to 'match up' and be successful at this particular event...

Of course, all this depends on your own state of mind and personality... you can make any of that stuff work provided it's obvious that you're trying to have fun about it all. Make each interaction something each of the women will remember.

I did a couple of these many years back. It's kinda weird but can be interesting. Just know that all the girls will ask the exact same question first "what do you?" so have something non-banal prepared to say. You only have like 3-5 minutes to talk so how much can you really even exchange anyway? Basically if you are her physical type + you make her laugh and don't seem like a loser or creepy she'll choose you.

I think speed dating has some good uses though. If you're a guy just started out with a lot of approach anxiety, this is a good way break you out of you comfort zone. You will be forced to interact with 20 women or so back to back. For a guy that's really scared to approach, this could be a great way to ease you into comfort in chatting up girls. And the girls have to talk to you so they can't just blow you off and go back to dancing with their friends.

Speed Dating probably isn't necessary though for intermediate-advanced guys. Most the women there are in the 4-6 range. Maybe a couple 7s and perhaps one 8 at the most, and of course some dogs too on the other end. There's simply better places to find quality if you have skills.

i did this once in london a couple of years ago

make sure you're in an age group you're interested in - for some reason i was in the 28-35 group with most chicks closer to 35 than 28; a better option would have been 25-30 which would have had a lot less desperado's and creatures

overall there were about 14 girls, one of them i would consider attractive and another one kinda attractive (after some booze); the rest were basically grenades or even grenade launchers

the competition: 90% of the guys there were complete douchebags; the kind that still lives with his mum, never had a date, very shy, terrible body language etc

the biggest problem with speed dating is that the girl(s) that are most attractive will quickly find out she/they are the hottest girl(s) there and will from then on act like a stuck up b*tch, same if you put a hottie in a club filled with animals

it's dead easy if you're just looking to bang a couple of ugs but don't expect any to find any real gems there

let's face it; if she were completely normal why on earth would she go speed dating right?

to a lesser extent i find this is also the problem with internet dating....

that's depressing Zaneti...however I ve met severl hotties online. there sure are hotties dating online. however nothing beats social game

Military wives always go to that speed dating crap so watch out.
