I've been seeing more and more of these types of stories popping up in different cities, I'm not sure if it's just the media exposure, but it feels like police abuses of power are getting worse and worse.

Not to mention how much they collect from the taxpayer ($100,000+ in many Canadian cities) while rarely being held accountable.

Zubko said the chain of events started about 9 p.m. Monday when his wife, who he says suffers from “100% dementia” and who speaks mostly Polish, left the house and got the attention of three girls walking by when she said there was a “bad man” in the house.

Someone called police, who came out to check on the woman and the situation. The only person inside was Zubko, who was watching TV and unaware of what was going on outside, he said.

When officers arrived, they tried to speak to Zubko’s wife, but she doesn’t speak English. So they went to the house and knocked on the window, he said.

“There’s a knock on the picture window . . . I get up, and hear a harsh voice saying ‘Do you live here?’ It startles me. Whose business is it?” said Zubko, recalling the incident and saying he didn’t realize at first it was police at the window.

“I answered with a question: ‘Can’t you tell (that I live here)?’ ”

The voice said to come outside.

When he got to the door, he said, he saw the officers, but also saw his wife near a police cruiser at the road. He instinctively tried to move toward her, but officers blocked him, yanking his hands behind his back to arrest him, he said.

And then, Zubko said, they shoved him face down onto the driveway.

“It hurt like hell,” he said, adding he couldn’t help but cry in pain and shout for help as he begged the officers to uncuff him.

“Who would handcuff a guy (behind) his back and push him over on his face, whether he’s 87 or 17?” asked London lawyer Bill Dewar who said he had been retained earlier this week by Zubko.

“You can’t get around the fact, the guy is on his own property and committed no crime.”

Dewar said police “should have known his wife was an Alzheimer’s patient,” and even if they wanted to arrest Zubko, they could have done so with less force.

Police said Zubko was “uncooperative” and swore at the officers when they started asking questions out of “concern for the woman’s well-being.”

Police don’t deny arresting Zubko, or that he got hurt during the process, but say he was aggressive.

They stand by the charge against him for allegedly assaulting the officers, London police Const. Ken Steeves said.

“He shoved the officers more than once,” Steeves said. “He was resisting the arrest and was aggressive.

“During the arrest, he sustained an injury to his nose,” Steeves said.

“It’s unfortunate that he sustained injury because that’s certainly not the intent of our officers during any arrest.”

But Zubko said “police are trained to subdue people,” adding, “even if it’s true (the police assertion that Zubko provoked them) it’s still an overreaction.”

Asked to comment on Zubko’s claim the officers shoved him face down onto the ground after cuffing him, Steeves said the officers weren’t available for comment, but that he would leave a message stating the Free Press wanted more answers.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Zubko, who said he was taken to hospital by ambulance for his facial injuries.

“Things like this don’t happen in Canada,” he added.

Zubko and his wife — who is Polish — married in Germany, then moved to Canada in 1950. He built his home in 1960, and he and his wife raised their two daughters there. Now, as a result of the incident, he said, health-care workers have suggested his wife needs more care in a facility.

“I hate to see the woman go,” he said.

Asked how police feel about Zubko saying he was assaulted, Steeves said, “He can share the story with anybody. That’s what the courts are for, to provide his side of the story.”

TL;DR So the Police are going to charge an elderly man with assault, and claim it was necessary to grind his face into the pavement, since multiple officers couldn't handle his "swearing and pushing" while trying to aid his wife?

I can't be the only one who feels like we're seeing a vicious circle:

Police overblowing threats --> justifying new resources/power to fight said threats --> escalating/abusing situations to create "evidence" of threats --> repeat

It's like the God damn Police State recycling symbol...

It's like the general Police State positive feedback cycle, only with feminist hysteria about abused women mixed in. I bet they wouldn't have been so eager to help and punish the offender if the background was different (like robbery instead of marital abuse).

Roosh had a tweet like this, where he predicted men are going to start having Russian-style dash cams for all their interactions with women. Maybe we just need to run those motherfuckers 24/7 for the cops too.

Fuckin pigs. Always hated cops. The problem is its a reasonably well paying job with low barriers to entry, at least where I live. High school diploma and a six month academy.

I know several police officers personally. Not one of them joined because they wanted to help people. They only became cops because its the best job which doesn't require an education. You get a bunch of dipshits too stupid to do anything else becoming police officers, and many of them are not people of high more value. Definitely not the types who should be police.

I had one of them tell me straight up that he became a cop because he gets to beat people up and be paid for it.

Things like this do happen in Canada.

Very few people actually like/admire/respect the RCMP in my country anymore. And the city police are usually even worse. They've all done such a tremendous job of monstering themselves. It's actually a problematic cycle. The more the police erode their honorable standing, the more they attract losers to recruit, who only serve to continue reducing the honorable standing.

The Ian Bush fiasco back in 2005 was when I realized the RCMP have basically gone rogue.

As for low entry requirements... very few jobs have a weeding out process like law enforcement In large cities only like 1 in 1000 applicants get hired. I am sure very few professions have such a weeding out process. During the days when the economy was good they had a shortage of applicants. They still had much more applicants than positions but not enough to survive the weeding out. Test, background check, psych exam, heath checks and drug tests. Then you have to be chosen out of 3 candidates who are equally qualified for each position.
NYPD was easy because they hire so many...out of my class of 1000 over 35k took the test. You need 2 years of college minimum to qualify(most end up having 4 years). 3 friends of mine took the test with me. 2 disqualified because of education and 1 had smoked mari. at one time.
Funny thing is the college educated cops(like me) actually perform worst than the old timers that were hired before education was needed.
yes most don't go in solely to protect people. Can you blame them?To risk your life there has to be other compensation, like people join military for GI bill. Doctors go into medicine to make big bucks. Teachers often admit they wanted large vacations(the male teachers). I still never found a dentist who doesn't try to fleece patients. Here in NYC they will actually see 1 cavity and tell you , 5 cavities and one crown needed lol. When ever I have a dentist tell me i need work , I gotta go to my family dentist who doesn't accept my insurance just to confirm.Firefighters join fire dept. so they can get paid to sleep and have time for a second job.
In any case those moral goody 2 shoes are welcome to apply to become law enforcement. But that's right they don't have the balls to have a job that they cant sit on their ass 9-5.Work weekends?NO way. Dedicate 8 months in the academy with 2 hour physical training everyday? yeah right.
As one FBI shrink once told me....you have to be somewhat nuts to do the job in the first place!So a little bit of crazy is actually the ideal candidate.

I don't know about the RCMP, but it is a never endiNG cycle. The media actually is the real culprit(LOW PAY ALSO). They sensationalize under a microscope every police incident. That in turn turns away the best candidates. In the end the depts need a minimum manpower and will have to take lower scored applicants.

A few years ago they lowered rookie pay in NYPD to 25k. Of course very few people were interested, after all since they have college they could get safer jobs.SO they basically stopped background checks LOL. A few classes of candidates were hired that were the bottom of the barrel. I am talking gang bangers .There were cops from the bloods and crips on the force.Weed growing Jamaican guys were hired. New immigrants from FSU who thought black people were suppose to be called the N word.They even hired a midget like in Game of thrones.A transvestite also. Well a lot of the recent criminal acts are actually from cops hired from those classes.These guys are stupid. They even robbed banks in uniform lol and later post on FB. You think it is safe working with these cops?

You are intimate with there sex life? I don't know, cops have badge bunnies. Most are very young. Cops and firemen actually can get girls 25 years younger more often than the average person. Go to a suburban cop/fireman bar/lounge like they have in Long Island.Hot Girls 17-30 packed in.

But police say it wasn’t so simple.

The senior citizen was “uncooperative,” and swore at the officers when they started asking questions about his wife. He refused to answer the questions and then pushed the officers “more than once,” a media spokeseperson said Thursday.

On Friday Duncan said he couldn’t go into detail about the case because it is now before the courts, but insisted his officers did what they had to, regardless of the man’s age.

He said there is no need for an internal investigation because he’s already done his own.

“The matter was reviewed. I’ve reviewed it and I’ve also had it reviewed through the uniform division,” he said.”The facts and circumstances were such that the officers were justified in the manner in which they conducted themselves and certainly the laying of the charge is appropriate given the circumstances they faced with respect to Mr. Zubko.”

Zubko has retained lawyer Bill Dewar to represent him in what he says will be a civil lawsuit.

This is a tough one.

I had a close relative with Alzheimers and they will say the harshest of things. I have no doubt his wife was saying he was abusing her or some other fucked up stuff.

So what are the cops suppose to do?

The guy should have cooperated with the cops knowing the condition of his wife and what she may have said. It sounds like he was pretty hostile to the cops and then played victim.

How is that kind of violence the proper response, particularly against someone who poses zero physical threat? What if the elderly guy had been permanently injured? Wouldn't the possibility of Alzheimers increase the need for restraint?

How is violence the proper response?

Domestic violence calls are some of the more dangerous calls a cop can get. You can ask jimukr. If the guy was acting hostile, it is safer for the cops to cuff him. I have no doubt he probably resisted just from reading the story.

So, what if your mother was being abused by her live in boyfriend and the cops came but didn't investigate and simply walked away? You would probably be bitching they didn't do there jobs.

I bet most guys posting in this thread haven't had to deal with Alzheimers. The guy should have been less confrontational and worked with the cops knowing what she could have been saying.

I have had my fair dealings with prick cops. I don't trust them simply because if I know they can take me away if they don't like me for some bullshit law that was on the books forever.

But, we have to look at the context of these things as well.
