RE: Obama economic speech
Obama is the sole reason this country is still functioning as a nation. His strong economic policies have saved us from the frivolous spending of the Bush Administration. The only way we'll stay together is for Obama to have a third and forth term. That is in the process:

I fully support this, and even if the amendment isn't removed, Obama has had to make some tough decisions, and had to basically ignore the constitution anyways, so it's not a big deal if he doesn't worry about the 22nd amendment.

He said that people want to become middle class. That statement is opposite of the original idea of America and the greatness that it once aspired to. As an American I don't want to be middle class, I want to be in the upper class. He is creating a ceiling and not even pretending to hide it.
It speaks directly to all the recent problems in America. The idea that America is great is gone, even the president says so. It's depressing to be an American after hearing that.
I don't think the dream is gone. I do think some few have figured out ways to extract resources and money from people who might not have been as, for the lack of a better word, evil as some people are. Wealth is so concentrated now much more than before. And though we all love the rags to riches stories, America after WWII really grew on the strength of a strong middle class. It is easier for a strong middle class to then make their move to the top/elite however you want to describe it.
A strong middle class may allow for the re-introduction of values into this country. We all complain about the crazy b*tches do most of them come from a solid family?
Nothing keeps you from reaching the top. But a lot of success has to do with having a good/strong foundation. Who drives the economy? You think there are enough billionaires to keep buying Ipads? And the very poor would struggle to afford such a luxury. A strong middle class drives the economy.
Just my 100,000 foot observations.

Nobody is stopping you from becoming upper class. Obama is speaking to the nation as a whole. You do realize that it's a logical fallacy that everyone can be upper class? That's like saying you can have an army with all officers and no grunts.
The best we can hope for is a nation where poverty is minimal, middle class offers a high standard of living as it does in western economies and that the brightest and most capable can easily rise to the top if they've earned it.
I don't know why but just thought of the thing, where most every time someone is asked a question about ranking - I always hear above average. If everyone is above average, isn't that the average, the low the high and median, etc?
LOL.

Raise your hand if you think you can have a middle class life without risk, responsibility, integrity, honesty, or hard work. Now take that hand and slap yourself in the face with it.
The middle class life is one of hard work, not subsidization.
The upper class life is one of fast thinking, street smarts, aggression, huge risk, bust, manipulation and loopholes. Ad lots of charming dominance.

Someone needs to start selling Obama 2016 T shirts and bumper stickers. He is really hated by close to half the country and the trolling that would ensue with heated anti obama people would be priceless.

RE: Obama economic speech
This could also mean that the middle class has shrunk so much that it is now a huge achievement to become middle class for someone formerly below that, let alone upper.

Serrano proposed similar resolutions in 1997 and 1999, during Bill Clinton’s administration, and in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007, during George W. Bush’s administration. He proposed the repeal again in 2009 after Obama took office.

RE: Obama economic speech
I love how Obummer picked Galesburg, Illinois to announce how he is focusing on the economy again (yawn). Galesburg only has the railroad, the prison and the college these days. Most manufacturing is gone, and there just isn't much there any more. I know: I have worked on projects in that town, and I have a buddy working for the City in that town.
This is only the 100th time he has given this speech in the past 5 years. More government "investment" and stimulus, blah blah blah. Nothing new here: same old pissy Obummer telling us that the 1% gets all the cash while everyone else is oppressed. I cpuld recite this one in my sleep. Sorry kiddos, this is one of the worst recoveries in the history of this country, and as China's and Europe's economies are stagnating and entering another recession, we are right on their heels.
Regulation, taxes, healthcare and personal debt loads helping to inspire entrepreneurs here.....don't you feel inspired?
