Mexico is a very regionalist country. Southern Mexico might as well be part of Guatemala because it's vastly different to the other parts of Mexico in so many ways.

Indeed Jalisco and Zacatecas are very alike (hell, according to 23andme, I'm more genetically aligned with people from Zacatecas than with people from Jalisco). for me, the only brother states of Jalisco are Zacatecas and Aguascalientes, since they're so similar to Jalisco. The other states get very different to Jalisco.
