Affiliate marketing can make money, but most people that do it earn an insanely low amount for the work it consists of. Freelancing, in my opinion, is the best way unless you have your own product to sell.

The thing I find troubling about the whole location independence craze is I simply don't know anyone in person who has pulled it off. Its just hearsay of internet gurus. Even with seeming very mobile skills like coding, companies usually want the guy on location.

RE: Ways to make money on the Internet
It's possible to make a living from affiliate marketing.
But the key is to get the affiliates to work for you , not the other way around.
The problem is that the easiest ways to do so might get you in trouble(depending on your location).
Online file sharing has always been the easiest for me. Even when i was an affiliate myself and when i didnt have my own website i averaged around 700-1000 Euro a month using websites such as Oron and Filesonic. Both of them are gone now. but you will need to get a hold of alot of material that will get you in trouble if they decide to raid your apartment, if your in the US or UK that is.

The good thing is that once you have your own website and have registered a DMCA agent, you are not responsible for the material your affiliates upload. This could still be risky if you are based in the US though. But not a problem once you move your business to a less-developed country. The next step is to promote it, but with webmaster forums such as Wjunction it easy to reach affiliates. There are so many people from countries such as India that would grab any opportunity to get some cash in that the only question really is how many your servers can handle.

Another advantage is the fact that you only need to invest a little bit to get it up and runnning. When i first started i had my own server to run the script(410$/month) and one fileserver(650$/month). But since it only takes a few days to get another one up and running you can go alot cheaper then that just to be safe. Then i purchased a filesharing script(XFS) and had it adjusted by a freelancer to get rid of the basic look(1500$ for both).
Ever since then i only need to monitor the servers and expand.
Obviously there is alot more to be done before that but im just giving a brief summary.

All my Affiliates get the money in. My day to day routine is to keep up with taxes, install new payment methods, reply to customer emails and most important the DMCA complaints. This can all be done without any real coding knowledge, although once you get to the point where its getting bigger and bigger you need to hire some personal, or just stick with freelancers if you decide to keep it small.

Anyway i can go on for hours, for any personal questions just send me a PM.

Mobile marketing is where the big money is going to be made imparticular in the affiliate marketing space over the next 3 - 5 years.

Get ahead of the curve and focus in on this.

This could include app development, media buying, local marketing...there are many ways to tap into this space.

I personally know affiliates in the mobile space pulling down huge numbers promoting offers in some countries you would never consider goldmines.

Kenya, Ghana, Qatar, Iraq, Jordan, Yemen etc

In alot of these countries you have mobile phone penetration far greater than desktop and very little competition.

Countries like Australia you have mobile phone penetration numbers over 100%

The growth in this industry is going to be phenomenal.

I've met dozens of people doing it on my travels, they have ranged from freelancers scraping by, guys with a stable of apps and content sites, to guys telecommuting to work while they travel, and big-shot super-affiliates who were living quite a ridiculously enviable life to be honest.

You wont find them by searching for "location independence" in Google, because the people actually doing it arent blogging about location independence or lifestyle design (those are the ones selling the dream).

The people actually doing it are tucked away, entrenched in a particular niches with very specific products, services, businesses. They are "deep in the forest" of their particular industry, and actually out living their location independence, not blogging about it.

RE: Ways to make money on the Internet
It's simple but not easy. Follow these:
- select a solid product, that offers real life value to customers, that is in the higher end. Don't waste your time with low priced items.
- a product that you yourself will love to use and will use. You have to believe in the product you're selling if you want to build a long term viable business.
- select a company that is solid, reliable, pays on time and has an impeccable reputation and that has been around for a while (at least 10+ years).
- select a company with a great sales system/funnel in place to assist you with the sales process.
- select a company with a good support system.

And then you'll be in good shape.

All the best!

As a data analyst, or whatever the name is today, We have to keep the perception up that we are working at the office otherwise people will start bitching even if they could they work location independently themselves.

I learned this lesson after I got a bunch a shit for working at home at my previous company. Even though everyone had the right to work from home, i was the only one that actually did it. My manager was completely cool with me working from home but people outside the team got resentful and bitched about it to my manager.

At my new company, I've been able to play this game better. Right now, I'm in LA but Im pretending I'm still in London. And before LA, I was in Poland.

I use to visit this one site, I can't remember the name, but the dude was location independent. He traveled all over the world and banged chicks. He even wrote books about it. If only I could remember his name......

Pretty sure it started with an S. He looked kind of like the Geico caveman.
