I would go race tracking and pay up to drive a high end car just for the thrill, flooring it etc etc, you'll get your high then realize you don't actually want to own that thing.

I'm admittedly materialistic. I do know that owning an M3 entails needing a garage (which I don't have) and a hell of a lot of maintenance after 5 years, assuming I'm financing one. It would be stupid to have a car like that if I'm still renting apartments.

I've been known to do stupid shit.

And I've been looking at racing. I'm thinking for my birthday I might drop 4k for a 3-day racing camp. Might as well get my mid-life crisis over with while I'm 32 right?

I do have to say though, mine gets a lot of attention up in my area.

But then BMW converts are not common in central WI. I'm sure the effect would be negligible in LA.

Great pic, yes BMWs and Mercs just don't have value unless it is the more expensive version. People will sacrifice a bit on housing in order to drive something nice.

My old roommate had a used M3, he used to take out that dusting thing to wipe dust off his car before driving to work. I don't think he ever got laid because of it.

Where I work (very expensive rent in this building - thank god I don't pay it) - I come out to my car to find new door dings all the time because the garage is so packed. And there are an f load of expensive cars in the garage all the time. Makes me glad I didn't give into getting a new car, all I would do is look for scratches.

As the dude was saying, needing a garage. There is a lot of street parking in LA for apt renters vs. garages. It is very common to see tons of bumper scratches just from have to parallel park and mainly just others not giving a shit when they are parking.

I would hate to be owned by my car in LA with the constant obsessing about it. Even worse is if you buy it for a certain reason (like more chicks) and it doesn't work, then it is just blowing money.

But I think for any of you that want to drive a nice car for just a few months for fun, there are a lot of these websites that try to connect people who want out of their car leases with those that want them.

Sometimes you can score a good deal. A friend got a car for half the lease payments (exact car he wanted) but he did have to fly to get it and drive it back.
