I keep trying to tell him how to set up the place a little better, change the music, promote, he doesnt care about that and basically is fuck it, the bar manager can do it if he wants. Bar manager is a costa rican guy who only knows how to do things the CR way. Stupid.

Though I will be throwing a pool party at the resort and bringing in a few DJ's, no one in the whole fucking town does pool parties, no imagination at all in CR. We are talking Heredia/Alajuela area, the 2nd and 3rd largest cities only 45 minutes from san jose and NO one throws a pool party. Fucking retarded.

I understand your point, but keep in mind in America, pool parties were almost non-existent as well 8 years ago.

Keep in mind that in most 3rd world countries (and in some 2nd world countries, too) the local thugs will show up, run a $1,000 tab and then leave without paying.
Cops will want their dues, municipal council guys too (the guys who give you your license), the health inspection guys and fire inspector, too, every now and then some other guy will also show up and want $, too.

Easier said than done when the towns top hoodlum has a machete to your neck and the chief of police is his brother.

Yep... plus you find out who is in charge of shit and become friends. An ally or business partner is always nice to have.

Read about this place in a NY Times Travel article about Santa Marta Colombia. Opened last year. Run by two American brothers.

This is the type of place we have talked about briefly in this thread. A fun hostel in an upcoming city, with a cool bar.

If any of you come across a similar location that you think would be a good fit for a hostel post on this thread or send me a PM. I am up for investing in any similar type of ventures.

From someone who previously owned two nightclubs, here's my advice: You'll shoot your eye out, kid!

haha. But really, you need experience in the business before you attempt this. Bartending, barback, security, mgmt. If you don't have this experience it could cost you big time.

what country are you looking at?
