Silva did take him seriously. He did everything he could to keep Chris from taking him down and he got exactly what he wanted.

I can't wait for the next round of excuses when Weidman wins the rematch.

It was almost scary to see how well it was working too. It's hard not to take a swing at a guy when he's begging you to do it I guess.

One thing Chris Weidman doesn't seem to do is to use the punch to set up the takedown. Chael Sonnen was a master at throwing a punch then doing a quick level change and shooting in, but I didn't recall Weidman doing that once.

I was in a bar full of people watching the fight, and many of them were dumbfounded at the way Silva fought. Some Weidman supporters were even stunned at how much that dude was clowning.

For the people who predicted a Weidman win, I understand why they want to see it as him taking the title versus Silva practically handing it to him. It's human nature. We want to be right. But from an objective viewpoint, it's quite obvious that Silva didn't put up a real fight.

^ I was the fight at a bar as well and there was this guy sitting near me who was actually seriously enraged over Silva's antics - like he was literally turning red and was screaming. He actually was screaming "I can't watch this shit!" and was about to get up and leave right before Silva got knocked out.

If by objective you mean completely retarded. The 2nd fight Weidman will realize he played into Anderson's clowning and stood up with him like Anderson wanted him to do. Weidman will take him down and ground and pound TKO him. Then I can go back online and listen to casual MMA fans tell us how Anderson let him win again and talk about some retarded conspiracy. Anderson was never the great MMA fighter you thought he was. Let it go.

RE: UFC 162
Weidman is a very, very good fighter, and has a skillset that is tailor-made to beat a guy like Silva. His combination of wrestling and offensive jiu jitsu makes him very dangerous against a weak wrestler like Silva. And as we saw, Weidman's striking is more than sufficient to pose a danger on the feet, as well, especially given the constant threat of the takedown. He's also an extremely disciplined guy and fights with the confidence that only an undefeated fighter can (the same thing that makes Jon Jones so dangerous). If they rematch I expect him to beat Anderson again. People saying this was a fluke or that Anderson was clowning too hard aren't knowledgeable or haven't been paying attention.

Since Anderson has supposedly agreed to a rematch, the bookmakers have set Silva at -185 and Weidman at +155. I'm waiting for Weidman to hit +200 and jumping on that line. Now that fighters know Anderson can be KO'd, I think he'll be less effective in future fights.

You could be right - Weidman could have the perfect style for Silva and he could knock his ass out again. But all I know is that compared to his past fights, Silva went overboard this time with his antics.

By the middle-end of the first round, I told my cousin he was going to lose if he kept this up. He might have lost anyway, but his half-assed attempts at defense didn't make it overly difficult for Weidman to catch him in the jaw.

But I'm not sure you have to be too "knowledgeable" to see that there was one guy fighting and one guy clowning. This isn't brain surgery - at the end of the day a fight is a fight.

Again. He did this because he wanted to keep the fight standing. Put yourself in Weidman's shoes. You got a guy in front of you willing to trade punches with his hands down. If you tried to take him down you would look like a huge pussy.

Weidman fell right into Anderson's taunting and started striking with the best MMA striker of all time. Anderson just gave up too much of an advantage and it got him KTFO'd.

In the rematch I still predict Anderson will clown around and bait Weidman into a striking match but not nearly as much. I hope this KO doesn't make Weidman cocky and I hope he goes for more takedowns and GnP.

In my opinion, Silva would win the rematch, as long as he doesn't clown around, and fight the way he usually fights.Weidman is an incredible fighter, but I think he would be on the backfoot second time around.

When you listen to Silva's post fight interviews it doesn't seem like he wants to fight anymore. I don't know if it's his limited english but he was avoiding answering anything directly like he was running for president or something.

Then again if he didn't want to be champion couldn't he have just retired? I also heard he signed a 10 fight contract in April so I wonder how that will play out. Either way it was a bizarre ending to his title run.

This video was before he fought Weidman. If you watch from 4:58 and on you'll see Silva clearly did not give a shit. Apparently there is a million dollar bet placed on Weidman that is being investigated as well but I personally doubt the fight was fixed.

Damn.

You guys are brutal.

The guy loses a fight and then people pile on and say the guy was never any good.

That's kind of crazy, if you ask me.

Same thing happened when Pac lost.

News just in: guys get caught.

Looking at Google trends for how often "UFC" is searched, it doesn't look like interest is waning but it seems to have reached a plateau.

I'm an unabashed MMA fanboy and I will be the first to tell you that the MMA boom is over and has been over since 2011-2012. I remember back in around 2007-2010, you would see Tapout and Affliction shirts all over the place and there was all sorts of media covering MMA - talking about how it's the hot new sport (even though it's been around for a while now) and people would be going around claiming to be cage fighters cause it was the in thing. You also saw all these organizations coming up like IFL, Bodog Fights, Affliction, and the like trying to get on the bandwagon. All of this is over now. I think a lot of the novelty has worn off and now the bandwagon fans are starting to move on to the next trend.

MMA will NEVER be as anywhere big as any team sport as much as I would like it to be. Watching two guys trying to beat each other up will only appeal to a certain narrow demographic unlike say baseball which appeals to children, women, white-collar people, etc.

Cropcop was a one-trick pony. His main weapon was that high left-kick. Never was impressed beyond that. Gabriel Gonzaga murdered him. And Gonzaga was destroyed by Randy Couture who was going on 50. What does that tell you?

Lol, I knew this was coming. I'm obviously not talking about old, injury ridden, mentally broken, shadow of former self UFC Crocop, but prime K1 and Pride Crocop. If you think he was a one trick pony I don't even want to have a discussion about striking with you because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. He was an absolute monster, and he actually fought much bigger and stronger guys than him, and he actually fought real strikers for most of his career, unlike Silva. By the way, you don't consider Griffin or Bonnar strikers, right?

Discounting the size factor, let's assume Crocop was lighter or Silva was heavier, if you put prime Crocop and prime Silva in a ring who do you think would win?

RE: UFC 162
Here is a write up that I think expresses what happened in the fight perfectly. It mirrors what Ive been saying but is written much better:

Quote:I think the reaction to this fight has been hilarious. I'd like to point out a few things:
Here's what actually happened:

Weidman took Silva down easily & pelted him with some harsh G&P. After escaping from the submission, Anderson decided he'd be better off dropping his hands (which helped him better defend the takedown) & rely on his head movement. This tactic caused both Griffin & Bonnar to make huge mistakes in the past, & embarrassed Maia & Leites horribly. He was hoping it would do the same to Weidman.

Basically, Anderson would much rather play a risky stand-up game than try to defend takedowns for 20+ minutes like he did in the first Chael fight. Weidman also hits a hell of a lot harder than Chael when he's on top, so that served as added motivation to keep himself upright.

Anderson's clowning was a calculated risk. He respected Weidman's grappling & didn't think he could constantly defend takedowns or get back to his feet. He also knew he had little chance of pulling off a sub. The only option left was to keep the fight standing, & the easiest way to do that was to bait Weidman into exchanging.

Silva took a risk & got burned because he underestimated Weidman's stand-up. However, Weidman's skillset forced Silva into thinking that may have been his best option. If he didn't have to worry about the takedown as much there's no way he drops his hands and leaves himself open.

Anderson didn't give the fight away. He got beat. Weidman is legit & this fight was not a fluke.

FWIW I said Anderson was over rated well before his loss. The UFC heavyweight and middleweight divisions have had the least amount of talent for a very long time and as I said before hes always had a huge size advantage and a huge reach advantage. BJ Penn, GSP, Aldo all fight close to their natural weight, Fedor and Crocop fought bigger fighters most of their career, BJ had fights against bigger opponents too.

Weidman was the first opponent in Silva's career that was well rounded and was close to the same size and reach. For being Brazilian and having access to the fighters/trainers he does, Anderson's jiu jitsu is horrible. Anderson is great at one aspect of MMA, I don't think that makes him a great mixed martial artist.
