I'm confused. People have always been married young, throughout the ever changing history of marriage. Why is the idea of a young marriage only now suddenly being receieved critically? And what difference does it make to white knights today what happened 12000 years ago??

Ps, the people in those graves could have been anything, from war heros to human sacrifices. Why is it automatically assumed that they were married? And even if they were, for what possible reason would they have both been buried in the same grave? Something seems a little off here..

Arch-- IDK how much they can tell about how they died. If they had injured skulls, you could guess, violence of some type, but they didn't mention that. I guess you could get stabbed by a sword and if there no bones broken than maybe it's impossible to tell.

Maybe they both got sick and were close so they buried them together. Infectious disease was no joke.

That statistic of life expectancy was always skewed by infant and mother death during childbirth. Once we figured out just to wash our damned hands before delivering a baby, the life expectancy shot through the roof (since we had less deaths at age 0).

Educated people today sort of offhandedly dismiss the high infant and child mortality characteristic of pre-modern times. But it was a fact of life back then.

Sure, if they knew the germ theory of disease in the Pleistocene epoch they could've seen more of their children into adulthood, but that understanding only came after thousands of years of civilization.

No, but statistically, it weighed down the life expectancy numbers ( think like grading on a curve ). Once the infant mortality rate dropped due to antiseptics ( amongst other things ), statistically the life expectancy number raised by removing the farthest outliers.

I had one professor tell me that even if you factored out children who died before 8, average life expectancy was still only about 35. Some people still lived to, say, 60 however. They were probably regarded as strange oracles of wisdom.

I believe agriculture was the enabler for increased population. Hunter-gatherer(HG) era women only had one child every three years, agricultural( AG) people could have a child every year, although I've read that human height actually decreased during the transition where AG-man outreproduced HG-man.

I assume AG-Man could also start storing knowledge in the form of more books and artwork, since they would have a place to keep it, eventually leading to miracles such as gangster rap.

As far as what mature is, in the evolutionary sense, readiness to have kids is far more important than the abiliityto contribute to a technological producer-consumer society.

Women only rarely really graduate to using relatively objective, non-personalized thought, even most men are trapped in primitive neolithic religious and magical thinking and aren't capable of solid logic.

Anyway, our logic is here to serve our reproduction, not vice versa.

Nah, you're professor only told you a half-truth. It was because of war most people didn't make it past 35.

The simple truth is that if the average person survives to age 20, then there is a very high chance they will survive to 60 or later (depending on how well they take car of themselves). This has been true for all of human history, and was probably true before history started.

It doesn't say that they were married in the article. They could have been brother and sister.

And why would they have died at the same time to buried together. A double burial is strange.

You only have to look at the Modern world to get a good guess as to why this is. The young girls having kids today are the "dumb" ones who either didn't pay attention in school or has no prospects to begin with. Seems like any girl who even got straight Cs in school is terrified of having kids. I'm sure sex ed scaring the shit out of kids has something to do with it, but who really wants to go through 9 months of body morphing hell? Humans were blessed with a short memory when it comes to pregnancy. If we didn't, most parents would be one and done.

I like most of the comments above. I've always said that the whole theory that girls (and boys for that matter) are maturing earlier and earlier, supposedly because of "chemicals in the water", or whatever, was a lot of self serving BS. That view is held because people have an inherent issue with children, especially girls, becoming adults, with all that entails. But since this is a natural process they feel bad about having those feelings so have to rationalise that children are now maturing earlier. That way they can claim their feelings are the result of evil chemical corporations, and not the result of their own fairly normal ordinary issues.

Most people don't appreciate just how common premature death was for our ancestors. As recently as the nineteenth century it was typical for 30-50% of children to die before they reached adulthood. Hell, even in modern Africa there are numerous countries with child mortality rates hovering around 20%.
