Were the hot girls always the cheerleaders?
This might be a silly question. But as a guy raised in England I don't know the correct answer.

In America were the hottest girls always the ones who became the cheerleaders? Or was that only the case sometimes? Or do you often get ugly girls becoming cheerleaders in US schools?

And was the head cheerleader always the hottest one?

Just wondering what the reality is - versus the impressions you get from watching American movies.

I graduated in 2004, I'd say the cheerleaders were a 50/50 mix of the hottest girls and above average girls. Weren't really any ugly ones.

I'm just guessing, but I reckon the hottest girls were the cheerleaders...Until recently for reasons known.

In my high school (in the northeast US) there was only 1 cute cheerleader. The rest were just nasty to look at. when you would see them in their tight outfits youd avert your eyes. However many of the girls in the honors society were attractive, which goes completely against the stereotypes the tv tries to proliferate these days.

I'd say the general rule was the hottest cheerleader was *not* the Captain of the Squad. That title usually went to the cutest of the 2nd tier. Most likely to succeed type chick.

And there were plenty of hot girls who weren't cheerleaders.

The French class had the hottest girls. Working in study groups, comparing homework answers, having a secret language in common no one else in school knew.

French Club was much hotter than cheerleaders.

And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly color. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."

No.

Hottest girls played varsity volleyball in the first half of fall semester and basketball in the second half of the semester/beginning of spring.

Plenty of cute girls did cheer leading and pom pom squad (the dance squad) but the majority of the top girls played sports.

I finished high school in 2002 in northern Virginia (suburban DC) and the hottest girls were spread across cheerleading, soccer, swimming, volleyball and track. Of the cheerleaders probably half were hot, and the rest were average to good.

My high school was pretty small, but only one or two of the cheerleaders were above average. Most we're actually average to below average girls that probably just wanted attention.

I'd say the hot girls already had plenty of attention and they were too lazy to commit to that kind of schedule and so did not do sports in high school also, even if they did in middle school.

No, that's mostly a stereotype. In some cases, cheerleaders are quite hot, but many are quite plain. It really is hit or miss. At my high school, arguably the hottest girl in school did cheerleading for a couple of years, but left the squad well before graduating. None of her similarly hot friends were cheerleaders, and the vast majority of the girls I remembered being "the hottest" in high school didn't cheer or play any sport at all. Some of the cheerleaders were cute, but several were very "meh".

At my university, the cheerleading team had several very hot girls, but most of the girls considered to be the hottest on campus were varsity athletes (volleyball, track and field, soccer, etc).

In short, what you're seeing in the movies is just a stereotype that doesn't always apply in real life. The head cheerleaders is most certainly not always the hottest one, and there are many plain or just unattractive cheerleaders. The hottest girls at schools these days in my experience (at least as far as University went) tended to be athletes.

In my high school, the dancers were the best looking, cheerleaders were mostly mediocre but sometimes hot.

We did not had cheerleading in my high school, but the hottest girls were usually the hockey/volleyball players.

My first two years of high school, 90% of the cheerleaders were certified babes. After I graduated, that number dropped to 30% with most of them being gross fatties lifting the 90lbs chick getting tossed up.

This too, though a few (the hottest ones) were in both in my school.

I think American schools tend to be bigger than British ones.

I went to a comprehensive school which was quite large. Had about seven or eight hundred people.

But I am guessing schools in America are much bigger.

Now - one big difference between America and Britain - is that over here the jocks, nerds, geeks, arty types, hot girls and ugly girls don't tend to group together in the way that they seem to in America (if TV and the movies are to be believed).

But I am going on how it was at my school.

The cheerleaders at my school had a reputation for being fat. Generally, the semi-athletic hot girls played field hockey. The legitimately athletic hot girls played soccer, volleyball, and ran track. Serious dancers got more involved in theater.

Though I do remember at one point the two hottest girls in my class joined the cheerleading squad for a season or two.

In my experience school size is all over the place in the US. It's generally discussed in terms of "class size" (not number in a classroom but entire graduating class) and 100-200 tends to be common, but it can be as high as 1,000 near large cities and as small as 20 in rural areas. This unscientific poll matches up with what I would estimate (http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/n...-size.html).

Quote:Now - one big difference between America and Britain - is that over here the jocks, nerds, geeks, arty types, hot girls and ugly girls don't tend to group together in the way that they seem to in America (if TV and the movies are to be believed).

It's been awhile since I've seen a high school landscape, but when I was there, this differed somewhat from school to school and is also subjective. While people would certainly make more friends while doing the activities they were most involved in, there was a lot of "cross-pollination" and most people were involved in at least two or three "spheres" (sports/computers/band/gaming/theater/art/student-newspaper/etc.). But I don't think every school was like this. Depending on the dynamics at the particular school (popularity of certain coaches/instructors, competition for spots, activities available, etc.) cliques and divisions might be more or less aligned along those arty/nerdy/jocky boundaries. Generally, the smaller the school the more likely you'll have kids who do everything.

In my high school (southeast Minnesota) probably 1/3 of the cheerleaders were good looking. The other 2/3 were snow pigs.

The hot girls are going to gather around the alpha males.

In a lot of schools, the alpha males are the jocks. It's no surprise that the hot girls end up hanging around them.

Hot girls also gather around "sigma" alphas- the leaders of the pack.. the bad boys. These are the wolves. The cool slick guy who looks like trouble.

RE: Were the hot girls always the cheerleaders?
At first.. yes... but they really hot ones could not keep up with practice from doing to much E and spending to much time running their massive social circles. Towards the end it was a mix of hot broads and girls whom had some legit dance/performance backgrounds. Those girls then ended up doing semi-pro/pro cheer-leading after and became easy targets for me and my friends.
