Look, there are plenty of (patriarchal too) cultures where men pay a price for the bride. The feminists say that it degrades women and treats them like cattle, just like they say brides' families giving dowries degrades women and treats them like less valuable and needing to come with a bonus.

Other than concluding that feminists are pissed no matter how you put it, it also shows that either receiving a dowry or paying a bride price is not inherently emasculating or empowering. It really depends on the context.

In this case, the man is a huge chump because he gave a massive bride price in a country where that's not a tradition at all, and even then it was for an old woman whom no one else would take even if she came with a dowry of her own.

No man that's how they dress for weddings over there, palms together is how they do formal greetings, or pose for wedding pictures in this case. The real shit test he failed was the bride price/dowry - I've got two white uncles and they didn't pay jack shit to my grandma.

@podznyshev - It's true that its actually a bride price but everyone over there calls it a dowry.
