I just got to Sao Paulo this morning, will be here for the next few months, and am trying to get out of my hostel ASAP. Which neighborhood is best for logistics? I've been looking over all the SP threads on here, but they're understandably focused on nightlife spots, which seem to be spread out over the city, and there's no consensus on where the best place to stay is (unlike Medellin, where almost everyone recommends Poblado). Right now I'm trying to decide between Vila Madalena, Pinheiros and Jardim Paulista. Anyone have any thoughts on where the best combo of daygame/nightgame is? Obrigado.

Jardim Paulista is of course great ....it's also one of the most expensive bairros in SP ...you could condider the new bohemian district that is now referred to as Baixo Augusta (between ruas Bela Cintra and Frei Caneca), which is adjacent to Jardim Paulista (on its northern side) but where you will find cheaper accommodation. It's also close to MASP and av Paulista so great for daygame.

Vila Madalena is a sub-district of Pinheiros. Personally I like Pinheiros, many bookstores, mid-level live music bars, ect.

Best for nightgame/nighlife is of course Itaim Bibi and its sub-district Vila Olimpia (the Epicenter of SP nightlife), which is also adjacent to Jardim Paulista, but on its southwest side.

I also like Moema. It's a bit far, and not as busy as the bairros mentioned above, but it's a very enjoyable district - and close to the Ibirapuera Parc, which is really nice and great for daygame.

Great info, much appreciated. I definitely thought about getting a place close to Vila Olimpia, but surprisingly there's no metro stop nearby, and given how bad I've head SP's traffic is I'm planning to commute largely by subway. That's why I'm leaning towards Vila Madalena. People keep telling me it's the second best nightlife spot (after VO), and it has it's own stop.

- You can take the metro to Luz (2 stops) and there the train (1 stop) to Barra Funda, which has many clubs, or the metro to Republica (1 stop) and there another metro (3 stops) to Barra Funda
- You can take a bus on Rua Augusta to Avenida Faria Limia and walk or take another bus to the many clubs and bars of Itaim Bibi/Vila Olimpia
- You can take the metro to Faria Lima in Pinheiros (1 stop) where you have a some clubs within walking distance
- You can walk to the alternative rock/skate/earstretcher hipster scene in Rua Augusta (at the other side of Avenida Paulista than Jardim Paulista)

Other things to take into consideration:

- The place where you'll work as traffic can be very congested during peak hours
- The type of parties you want to go to

Thanks for the tips, I wish I would've posted this earlier to give myself more time to look. As it is, I'm moving into a place right off the Faria Lima metro stop, which seems to be a pretty good location. It's walking distance from Vila Madalena, and the metro takes me anywhere else I need to go.

Hey OP I, ve been away from the forum for a while mostly due to work reasons (was travelling a lot around brazil) but i will do my best to stay active again. Well, vila madalenA and VO are very different , I wouldn't point which is the best , it depends on your style , VO is for club scene (mainstream) and Vila mada is more laid back, barzinhos , alternative/ hipster venues and stuff. Jardins is a super location but it is expensive, i think faria lima will suit you well. Look at my previous posts about Brazil.

can u find accommodation SP on a budget? Like I don't even need my own apartment, I'll rent a room....I just need a place close to the metro...I was thinking something no more than 600 reais/month? I'm on easyquarto and it seems to be in my budget but a lot of the best rooms are only for women

I'm pondering this same question now too. Why would jardim be good if it's so far from the clubs?
