In case you missed it, Dove's latest viral schtick has been for a woman to describe her looks to a forensic artist, and then have a stranger who briefly associated with the woman describe her appearance to the artist. The artist's renditions would be compared, with the image based on the stranger's description being more favorable. The takeaway is that strangers (supposedly) see you as being more attractive than you think you are.

Except, of course, that this is wrong.

Participants were told that they would be presented with a series of images including their original picture and images modified from that picture. The dove commercial in my opinion is true.

We are self-conscious creatures. We always think that we appear less attractive than what we really do.

The hottest girls in the room at times feels like the ugliest.

This is why telling a girl your beautiful or anything similar on a first date is pointless.

I know this is basic but never tell a woman she's beautiful.

If she believes you she's going to try and upgrade.

If she doesn't she views you as Beta trash.

Any experts out there want to chime in and tell us what to say when a woman asks "How do I look?"

"Better."

"It's complicated."

Ignore the question and move on?

My ex gf wore her best outfit for me but instead of complimenting her I just threw her on the bed and stripped it off then did her.

I can confirm this.

I was bored at work and started drawing a sketch of an ugly girl I work with. After ten minutes of me sketching, she wanted to look at my work.

Big mistake.

Yeah the point of the ad is to make people associate positive emotions with the "Dove" brand so that when they inevitably decide to purchase some some sort of personal care product, they will choose Dove over their competitors. Because Dove understands.

And in case you think the ad was only for women-- Dove now has a prominent line of products for men I noticed in the drugstore the other day. Funny how I never noticed them before the Beauty Sketches ad.
