How delusional parents smother remaining sparks of individuality
Some of you might have seen this story on various news sources already:

Yahoo Wrote:Bully Punished With Bad Clothing

On Wednesday, a Murry, Utah-based woman named Ally Olsen, 41, discovered that her fiancé’s 10-year-old daughter, Kaylee, was bullying a classmate. Kaylee’s teacher had emailed Olsen, explaining that the girl had been teasing a student for the past three weeks because of how she dressed. As a result, the victim no longer wanted to come to school.

http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/-bully-...02928.html

“When I received the email, I was confused because just a few weeks ago, Kaylee had received an award from her principal for stopping a bullying incident at school,” Olsen told Yahoo! Shine. “I confronted Kaylee who explained that she had called another girl ‘sleazy’ for wearing Daisy Duke shorts and a tank top. We’ve taught Kaylee to dress conservatively but never expected her to be judgmental.

Instead of hailing the girl for recognizing the super-slutty outfit for a 10-year old (what school allows its students to dress like that?) and being glad that she won't grow up too shameless, they punish her.

And what kind of a man allows his fiance to punish his child? He was probably afraid that he would be forced to sleep on the couch or something Whip

Quote:Olsen said Kaylee was not apologetic so in lieu of grounding her which she felt "wouldn’t resonate” she turned to Facebook, asking friends for advice on how to handle the situation. By the next day, Olsen had a plan of action. She took her family, who regularly frequented thrift shops, to a local store, pretending it was a routine shopping trip. As Kaylee deemed various articles of clothing “ugly” and “embarrassing,” Olsen had her try them on as a joke, eventually telling the fourth-grader that she was purchasing the clothes for her as punishment. “I wanted Kaylee to truly experience the embarrassing feelings she had evoked in someone else by wearing clothes she felt self-conscious in,” says Olsen. “The goal wasn’t to select clothes that were cheap; it was to buy things that Kaylee herself said she hated.” Also, Olsen told Kaylee that she wasn’t going to force her to apologize to her classmate; her remorse had to be genuine.

Although Kaylee cried, the next day she headed to school wearing one of the outfits under a coat that she had zipped up to her neck. “When she came home that afternoon, Kaylee said the kids laughed at her for wearing ‘pajamas.’ She also felt so guilty that she pulled her classmate aside and apologized for her behavior the previous day." To solidify the punishment, Olsen snapped a photo of Kaylee wearing the outfit (her face was blurred to protect her identity) and posted it on Facebook.

Not only is the punishment for this non-existent crime wacko, this woman even gloats over her clever choice and further humiliates the girl on Facebook. She gets off on being sadistic to only people who aren't able to fight back - kids.

Quote:By then, Olsen decided that Kaylee had suffered enough—until she learned that she had gotten into another altercation with a second girl. “When Kaylee explained how she had spoken rudely to a friend who was picking on her clothes, I decided that she needed to wear another embarrassing outfit the following day,” said Olsen. Kaylee was also made to attend her father’s soccer game wearing the clothing and posed for another photo in the outfit (her face was blurred again), which Olsen posted on Facebook. “We wanted adults to see the example we set.”

So Kaylee is being teased at school over the clothes she is forced to wear as punishment for teasing another girl over her clothes, and this woman is angry that Kaylee is hurt by teasing? Wasn't the original goal for her to experience how angry that makes a person?

Hamster

This story is currently making rounds all over the internet, with lots of parents hailing the stepmother for teaching the girl a lesson about being judgmental (i.e. not following the herd), for stepping in where her "irresponsible" Beta dad would do nothing, and for publicly gloating over the needless humiliation she inflicted on this girl.

I'm not saying this will forever scar the girl or something, but this story is rather emblematic of the wider trend the Western society is hurtling towards:

a) criminalization of slut shaming (in both genders), creating a vicious cycle
b) female parental role elevated over male
c) the rise of "Little Hitler" syndrome as parenting model, masquerading as being creative or empathic
d) total spinelessness of Beta men, who will let their children be abused for a chance of getting some used-up 41-year old pussy with a toxic attitude

Fuckthat

What's wrong with this again? Child acts badly, gets punished with meaningful punishment. Child will probably not act badly this way again. Dad should have stepped in and done something first, but whatever.

Kaylee sounds like a confident and alpha female, even at such a young age. And on top, she doesn't sound like she likes sluttiness. I wouldn't tolerate such a cruel and demoralizing punishment on my daughter, that's for sure.

Think of it this way - its like telling a boy to stop hitting back at his bullies or else he's gonna get punished further.

What's wrong is that the child was being punished for doing nothing wrong(when one of the other 10 year old students was slutting it up, she said 'wow you are really slutting it up") and the husband does not step in and put a stop to his new wife walking all over his daughter.

I could tolerate this bullshit over the girl being punished for doing something and the stepmom doing it instead of dad - they are stupid things but I can see how from a certain point of view it could be reasonable.

However, her gloating about humiliating Kaylee and then further humiliating the girl for following her own punishment obediently, is what breaks it for me. That's just too much bull concentrated in one event.

this can be looked at ANYWAY and still the stepmom gets criticized.
1) punishing the child = overstepping her bounds despite taking on childrearing duties and smothering the daughter for not tolerating slut shaming.
2) not punished = lack of discipline, leading to entitlement complex
how is this like telling a boy to stop hitting back at his bullies? its more like you want to tell the bully to keep hitting the kids until they fight back.
this is making a mountain out of a molehill. 10 year olds are assholes, plain and simple, that need to be disciplined when they do asshole things

Here's how:

Quote:By then, Olsen decided that Kaylee had suffered enough—until she learned that she had gotten into another altercation with a second girl. “When Kaylee explained how she had spoken rudely to a friend who was picking on her clothes, I decided that she needed to wear another embarrassing outfit the following day,” said Olsen.

So when Kaylee picks on someone's clothes she gets punished. When she talks back to someone picking on her own clothes, she gets punished again. Is this just?
