Its my worst nightmare. I'm 9 episodes in. You keep hoping its going to go somewhere but it never does. It only gets worse as time progresses. Don't do it.

Goodbye House of Cards. You used to be a great show.

Dude watch it for yourself and come to your own opinion.

A lot of people loved the scheming and shit the first two seasons, and the show pivoted because once Frank got into a power; he was no longer in a position to be scheming from the sidelines because he had to govern.

The show has pivoted, as it should have given the circumstances.

I'm still enjoying it; the story does have it's annoying points, and it's definitely not as "exciting" as it was in the beginning, but it's still entertaining, and that's the point, to be entertained.

Just finished the first episode of season 4. The opening scene is there is a lot of jacking off, both by the Armenian Pride character in prison, and by the show writers.

You see the writers of the show patting themselves on the back by having Lucas, the journalist character, escape prison rape by being "good with words" and narrating a sex scene while the Armenian criminal rubs one out. Riiight.

Hey jariel,

Glad you chimed in. You're right, all the scheming and Machiavellian plotting is what made the first two seasons so fun and memorable. But once Frank got into his position of power, the show definitely started changing. I don't think much of a change was necessary though. There were enemies on all sides. From foreign threats to candidates vying for his position, Frank faced constant obstacles where the previous formula would have worked well.

There were so many directions the show could have gone. A lot of people were annoyed in season 3 when they put in a lot of liberal talking points but I keep watching because I found it entertaining. It was interesting because Frank was going up against Russia and fighting a hard Presidential race. He was still scheming and being the dark Francis Underwood of previous seasons.

I am very biased because I never liked Claire to begin with but I did not like season 4 at all. I'm glad you find it entertaining and I hope you write an assessment once you finish the season. I guess I'm just disappointed in the direction the show has chosen to go and this is where I have to get off the train.

SPOILERS:

So Claire fucks up Frank's campaign a bit at the beginning and Frank retaliates by becoming a total cuckold by the end of the season? Claire this and Claire that blah blah blah...

Also laughed at the way FU and others were concerned about Syrian president's approval for ground forces to fight ICO. Yeah, right.

Laugh2

And what was up with turning Petrov into a cardboard -version of his previous self? He could've gotten the oligarch back to Russia scot-free had he kept his cool on the phone with Frank. Instead they had to have a high school level heated exchange of words.

The negative opinions expressed so far make me feel better about the fact that I'm working all weekend and haven't had time to binge watch the 4th season. Seriously though, after season three, I'm not even sure if I want to.

I hated Skylar in Breaking Bad.
I hate Claire even more in House of Cards.

The worst thing, there are a lot of women who sympathize with them....

I am 5 episode in the fourth season of House of Cards and each episode I am hoping of the comeback of Frank Underwood.

I hope it will come, but when I read the last comments here, it doesn't seem that way.

I'm on episode 10 about to finish up the season today. I'm enjoying this season quite a bit.
The underwood's just consistently run circles around everyone, but I bet that one reporter
is going to blow everything up for them.

Spoiler:

I think it'd be fucking hilarious to see them both go down for everything and get their legacy.
A legacy of being the most corrupt and hated family in the white house ever.

I'm about halfway through Season 4, and it's usual House of Cards. If you like it, you'll like it. I love this show personally, and I think it's worth noting how much the Gervais Principle applies.

For those that are in the know, I enjoy the build up to scenes between two sociopaths who can speak in Power Talk together (i.e. When Claire and Petrov meet one on one). The show is a lot of posturetalk between the clueless, but there's something electric about when Petrov, Frank, Claire and Doug have one on one scenes together, as they are the ones with the true power on the show.

Well I finished it. It's definitely disappointing for me. I expected more excitement especially since the next season won't come for another year. If you haven't noticed though, The person who plays claire is now the executive producer so that's probably why we're seeing more of her. (Robin Wright)

I noticed that too but couldn't find it mentioned on Robin Wright's imdb page. Thats another reason I think the show has gone downhill.

This season was pretty weak. A husband and wife presidential ticket would never fly. It also just made the remainder of the series too predictable. They'll win the election. But Frank will either die as a result of his health issues from the liver transplant. He'll be arrested for corruption due to the news reporter. Or Claire will fuck him over and force him out somehow. Either way, the series ends with Claire in the oval office.

Claire character ruined the show. It started with her rebelion on season 3. The show was great when is was about Frank Underwood(season 1 and 2). the VP thing it makes no fucking sense, now it's all about Claire running(or ruining it) the show, I'm done with it.

This season was relatively boring.

Not enough corruption or killing. Too much Claire. Dragged out the reporter for another affair and not much else.

Lucas going crazy and doing what he did was good, but it fizzled out quickly.

The best thing to come out of this season is that I won't have to desperately wait all year for next season. I just don't care enough any more.

*******SPOILERS*******

For the record, I thought season 1 and season 2 were very solid and fun. In contrast, Season 3 was incredibly boring and really off the mark in many ways. Enough so that I almost wrote off the show completely. I had hopes that they would correct things in season 4 since the potential was still there. That said....

Season 4 is better than season 3 but the show has become WAY too Claire focused and has really lost what made it entertaining to watch in season 1 and 2. People watched this show for Frank and his entertaining, charismatic, and ruthless political gamesmanship and his devious evil side; not to see a political drama revolving around the emotionless and boring Clarie Underwood and her quest for power and relevance. It's like a season of 24 that focuses more on Chloe vs Jack Bauer: that's not what people signed up and what sold them on the show. I had hope season 3 was just a misstep but as alluded to, season 4 confirms that the show really is a shadow of its former great self now.

I was hoping S4 would build off the rift between Clarie and Frank (bringing back the ruthless Frank that people want to see and making him the center of the show again) and I enjoyed S4 for the most part until everything resetted in the middle of the season. Frank was barely around for like 2-3 episodes and everything thereafter became very Clarie focused it seemed like; it didn't even feel like Frank Underwood was the main character anymore and was just a bit character at times now.

I think S4 should have been the end of the show with basically Frank and Clarie destroying each other completely as was the course set in season 3 and played out in the first half of season 4. They basically wasted the first half of this season (and the previous season) setting this arc up to just throw it out the window and hit the reset button and go a completely different random direction. They could have had Frank kill Clarie midway or 2/3rds into the season to shut her up and spent the rest of the season showing the whole house of cards coming down, ultimately resulting in Frank's assassination via Lucas in the end or something. That would have been compelling, entertaining and ultimately in-line with the tone and vibe of seasons 1 and 2.

It really is annoying that they wasted half the season pretending to go down the road of mutual destruction between the Underwood's and then pulled a bait and switch to go down a far less interesting road instead. Can't say I'm super excited for season 5.

That's what happens when a show gets good ratings. They drag it out instead of telling the story they originally were going to tell.

Season 3 was awful. Season 4 was a little better, but just meandering. There is no beginning, middle, and end to the Underwoods' story cause it's just going to keep going and going. Would have been much better if they just ended it.

I'm on the fourth episode. Claire be damned, she is very annoying. Why can't you be happy being First Lady? Women always want more, that is why.

Also, lots of race baiting and making black people seem like they still live under slavery. This show has become, since season 3, a SJW propaganda fest, if they keep at it, I will not finish watching this season.

For those saying the show is too Claire focused...

The writers have said the Underwoods are loosely inspired by the Clintons. Isn't this what happened with the Clintons? Hillary cucks him and uses his spotlight to achieve her own power?

I liked season 4 - way better then season 3 - but the show does have a liberal bent. Consider that all the smart characters are secretly liberals playing conservatives for votes. Petrov isn't really against gays, and the GOP candidate isn't really for guns. But these flaws aside, I still enjoy the mood, the music, and the fun of seeing great actors really go at each other like this.

It doesn't really make sense for a brutal and ambitious man to have no sex drive.

At least Mrs. Lanternjaw makes sense as a barren woman looking for busywork.

Still, it was entertaining. Good enough for something I didn't pay a cent to watch.
