Old School Manosphere
The popularity of this type of magazine peaked in the 1950s. There are some funny parallels with the stuff we talk about -- praising foreign women, criticism of women in general, the idea that women like masculine men, where to find pussy (apparently San Antonio or Miami Beach). Not sure why, but the dude on the cover always seems to be battling a contingent of weird animals, like a swarm of turtles for example.

RE: Old School Manosphere
This is interesting. According to Wikipedia: "These magazines' circulation dropped precipitously in the mid-1960s. Their tales of wartime adventure appealed to American men of the World War II and Korean War generations, and these established readers were reaching an age at which these magazines' girlie pictures were less of a draw. For those who wanted pornography, more explicit and less old-fashioned publications were available by this period... The magazine vision of adventurous, fighting masculinity also became unfashionable."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Men's_adventure

If we read between the lines, the rise of the counterculture and feminism killed the market for men's pulp magazines. Before I took the red pill I always loved hippie culture, psychedelia, and the music of the late 60's. But today I realize all the carnage that the counterculture wrought upon traditional gender norms.

Check out the headlines, those could be thread titles here.

"why foreign girls make better wives and lovers"

Has this desire always been this way. A sort of grass is greener mentality?

I'd like to see an RVF version of one of these, with Roosh on the cover fighting a flock of bats or something.

On a more serious note, I'd be pretty interested to read those articles, especially because they're from a time period that many guys look at as a golden age of masculinity in America. A good number of guys reading these were probably WW2 vets. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that these guys struggled with the same issues and had the same desires.

Just looked on ebay, the 1950's versions of those magazines, seems quite sought after, judging on price.

RE: Old School Manosphere
Awesome magazine! I'd love to see something similar nowadays! Speaking of which, is there any magazine similar today in the Anglosphere, where they would cover basically all the topics that we talk about in here all day long? A magazine that would be completely un-PC, uber Red Pill? For and by real men! Covering topics like the best places to find the sweetest, most feminine women on the planet. Best ways to reduce taxes and move all our assets to offshore accounts overseas to keep the hands of the vampires away from it. But also on lifestyle design, geo-arbitrage, starting and running online and or offline businesses but also on game and gaming the system in general. That would be an uber bad ass magazine to have!

If such a magazine is not yet available in the Anglosphere, how could we go about making it happen? How much would be required to get it going? Say make it a monthly magazine, we could get a few top contributors to write content for it and sell it on subscription based only, say 20 or 30 bucks a pop. I'm sure we could expand the idea but the premise of it is very sound and would have a huge appeal out there IMO.

That is one project I'd LOVE to get behind and make it see the light! It would be such a game changer and life changer for so many guys out there!

Thoughts guys?

Thoughts guys?

Do you think such a magazine would get more circulation than a popular internet blog? Don't you think the internet is slowly replacing print?

I remember copies of Argosy magazine laying around my dad's coffee table as a kid. Good stuff.

I have wondered the same thing.

After the war, my grandfather stayed behind in Holland for a few years to "help rebuild" as the family put it. When he died, my cousin was given all his war chests and we spent a week going through everything. Especially the photography.

I have to say, judging by the pictures, a lot of the war (for my grandfather at least) was spent riding motorcycles, having picnics with pretty European girls and being his charming self (obviously this was not true).

Perhaps these magazines were marketed to men like him. Those who smashed through a bunch of pretty European girls and when they returned to the Americas and daily routines missed the uncertainty of life that war has on a mans brain.

That tiger attacked that poor guy's manhood. I wonder what the result of that attack was? Is he now a Eunuch? Castrato?

He's an IRT so, yes.
