How does one go about getting that first teaching job? I have a BS in Physics, but all the positions I have seen posted ask for 1 to 3 years plus some certification / license.

I think some organisations just require you to have gone to university, achieved a 2:1 or higher. Look for those 'year out' 'gap year/career break' websites on google.
