Would like to hear anyone`s experiences, how they coped with it and dealt with it etc....

Might just help out some others who could be suffering from it

Thanks in advance

I was incredibly depressed during high school. Of course there was the standard teen angst, but, life during this period was just shitty. I remember waking up each day hoping I would have a good day, and with those feelings came crippling social anxieties.

I was a weird motherfucker in high school, and after high school, this continued. My first year of college was shitty. I was so scared of socializing and talking to people in general social situations (such as going to the stores) that I became even more depressed. However, I started learning confidence boosting techniques, started pushing myself, no matter how awkward, into situations I never experienced, and started socializing. With that being said, I also started eating a protein heavy diet and weight lifting. The large gains I made within a year made me way more confident.

In addition, I started to take on this idea that if it won't kill me, I shouldn't worry about it.

Looking back on it, it's interesting to see people now from high school and college, most don't even recognize me. I transformed myself. but, there was a lot of merit to being depressed for so long. Really allowed me to reflect on life in a peculiar way, and really helped me realize a lot about myself, and now if for whatever reason I get into little depression slumps, I realize that things will get better I just have to work towards it.

Really agree with Samseau's thoughts.

Break your routine. Leave your little bubble. Go somewhere else. Spend a week where you have minimal contact with the people you know back home. Meet some new people. Read. Meditate. Talk to your parents.

I had a couple weeks long phase where I was really getting stuck in a bad rut where I barely did anything besides working out, kickboxing, and alternating between intense procrastination and studying. It really fucked with me after a while, even if I didn't realise it at the time.

Honestly the greatest thing that happened was that my mom came by to visit for a week, meaning that besides class, I wasn't spending any time in my area, or with the people I know.

I spent those days reading, working, talking with my mom, helping her in the garden and shit. Looking back it was a pretty damn meditative experience. I realized that I'd gotten so stuck in a negative routine, that my social life was taking a massive hit, and that I needed to rebalance the way I measured my priorities. Balance in life is key.

Even if you can't get out of where you're at for a while, just set aside some time every week, or every couple days to contemplate: take a step back and examine your actions, habits and mindset as objectively as possible.

Winter was pretty rough for me, but all that's over, I'm looking forward to enjoying the summer Banana

RE: Depression
I used to have really bad mood swings and it wasn't till a doctor wanted to put me on anti-depressants that I said screw it, I can do it organically.

St. John's Wort, Valerian root, calcium, magnesium, leafy green diet, etc. all help.

But the biggest and most beneficial was just taking B-12 a couple times a week.
