I don't have a way of demonstrating this empirically, but I suspect that what I said earlier about men being the best at any endeavor applies here as well.

Each offspring represents a greater share of a woman's reproductive potential than it does a man's. Thus, it only makes sense that the average mother is more invested in any given offspring than the average father.

The average mother may be better than the average father. But at the right tail, the best fathers are more effective than the best mothers for reasons such as the ones Power_Ranger described:

When it comes to raising sons, even a below-average Dad is better than the average Mom.

But for daughters, I'd say average Mom's and Dad's can be 50/50. Of course, at the right end Men will always excel.

The only thing that springs to mind that women are better at are nurture-related activities like child care. I don't know about you, but leave me alone with a room of screaming kids, and I'm about as likely to strangle them one at a time as anything else.

Haha I think that women can often be worse than men at childcare (particularly of older boys) because they are often too nurturing and try to prevent them from doing anything dangerous which leads to self development. Hence the manginas which sometimes result from single mom households.
