Slayer was huge part of my life growing up and even though I have gotten, mellow, corporate and old, still gets regularly spun in my rotation. If there ever was a defining metal band, Slayer is it - great song writing and lyrics, the look (e.g. Hanneman's old black and white guitar with the DK and Black Flag logos prominently displayed, Kerry King's giant nail gauntlets), the cover art. All of it. I still haven't found a better release than turning on Seasons in the Abyss and hitting the iron at the gym.

Plus, the dude died from a flesh eating disease caused by a spider bite. That's a fucking METAL way to die.
