Recovering lost photos on my PC
My computer illiteracy knows no bounds and the latest smooth move I made involved me losing dozens of pics on my PC, pics that were to be posted on the forum, so guys if you could give me pointers, it would be appreciated.

Here's what happened: so I bought this wonderful new gadget which has since take over my life, its called an Iphone and I've been taking tons of pics and videos every day. I plugged the phone into my laptop (cheap Toshiba, runs Windows 7) and on the screen Autoplay popped up and asked to import pictures and videos, so I clicked yes, as they were loading, the screen asked me if I wanted to delete files from my Iphone, so I clicked yes. Then all of the pics were in a folder and I copied and pasted them into another folder where I'm keeping all of my Manila pics. Here's where I fucked up, the move file screen gave me three options:

There is already a file with the same name in this location
#1) Move and replace
#2) Don't move
#3) Move, but keep both files

Me being the idiot that I am, I chose #1 then later realized that all these cool pics I had were gone. I asked a buddy and he suggested a program called Recuva, which I downloaded and used but it recovered all of these old jpegs, gifs and other old files containing all kinds of useless shit I don't feel like sifting through because it will take me forever.

So do any of you have any suggestions as to how I can find these pics I uploaded from my Iphone?

Thanks and yes I know that its hard to believe that there's still guys out there in 2013 who don't know this simple shit, but we actually do exist.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

Wondershare File Recovery. You can torrent it, or pay...

RE: Recovering lost photos on my PC
I've used Recuva before. A girl I know tried to install Windows 7 on her PC and ended up formatting the hard drive and did a clean install of windows. I was able to recover all her files. Basically the files were still physically there but the reference to them and their location got wiped. Recuva does a low level bit by bit read of the hard drive and dumps everything it finds to a specified folder on another hard drive.

Your problem is that you over-wrote your previous files with files of the same name. The data in the memory location was written over with new data and is gone.

There's a program called Ontrack that does a better job and can do a deeper analysis and possibly recover your files. Give it a try. It may take 8 hours or more to dump your hard drive to another one. You may have to remove the hard drive and scan it from another PC.

If you're on a Mac they use a feature called Time Machine that lets you roll back changes and find anything you may have lost. Give it a look.

Good luck.
