Tried it, I say -all- the suggested statements, speaking slowly/normally, I get very short replies but the girls do maintain eye contact and some look intrigued, however I end up going through all the material in about a minute

How do I make it last longer? It's not that I talk too fast, that's not the case, just saying those lines when you get very short replies burns through material very quickly.

Are you solid at day game approaching in general?

To me the pet shop opener is more imaginative than most and takes more of a special act to pull off. If you are just testing this by all means, but I would find an approach that opens by a common coincidence or surrounding in a real venue / park / campus much more simple. Your username suggests you are not advanced yet.

For me, the common surrounding opener is even worse, I run out of material much quicker with those.

I am not buying you can't think of more things to say, what I think is going on is you just haven't talked to enough girls. Once you get comfortable that count down timer in your head on how you have to say something else quickly or you must bail will completely disappear and that confidence will show. She will probably even start carrying the conversation when you get to that point.

Keep approaching, you will keep failing that's fine. You probably also need to just increase your overall confidence in other ways. Is your confidence level high? If not that is your main problem, if you are confident enough things will just start popping out of your mouth until you know she is either into you or not, because you will just be having fun no matter how the approach turns out because you know whether she slaps you or ends up banging you it really doesn't make a big difference in your life overall.

There are many threads on confidence if that is the case. If your confidence is high, then you may actually need to start practicing these situation openers in a mirror or just practice on strangers to get to the point you can come up with 4 or 5 good follow ups in any conversation to keep it going.

Last question how many approaches have you made? If it is less than a few hundred you need to play the mathematics game especially as a beginner and just knock them out to get them out of the way.
