With what happened in Cyprus it's worth planning for if the world goes into meltdown and your money is confiscated. Small island nations seem vulnerable due to lack of army, national resources and over reliance on banking (BVI, Cayman,etc)

My short list

1. Switzerland

Great economy, stays out of war, independent government not bullied by EU or USA, etc. Very high quality of life. Very hard to become a citizen though and in tough times will keep out non-citizens

2. Norway

Loads of oil, stable economy and generous welfare payments. In event of SHTF they are likely to let in high numbers before closing doors. Tolerant people with a high quality of life.

3. Australia

Huge mining industry, loads of land and resources. Good relationship with China. Likely to be more friendly to those of Northern European origin

4. Singapore

Hard to become a citizen but highly stable country. Will likely favour skilled persons of any background. Strong economy and entrepreneurial people

5. Brazil

Lots of oil, gold, etc. no enemies, no wars since 19th century and loads of land. A country where a Jew, black man, etc could become Brazilian. Little in way of welfare.

6. Cape Verde

Richest country in Africa, far from war or conflict. Tolerant of both Jews and Christians, etc. little in way of natural resources and poor compared to other contenders

If TSHTF, you want to be somewhere with ample resources that isn't dependent on having basic necessities shipped in. A blockade around a place like Singapore would destroy it. I think the USA is good in this regard. You could dissappear into the woods and not be found for decades like the unibomber. And even then it took his brother ratting him out. As the world's largest economy, no place is better suited to ride out a storm.

You want to stay away from population centers and potential nuclear targets. Joel Skousen makes his living as a strategic relocation consultant and safe home designer and has published the book Strategic Relocation - North American Guide to Safe Places. I picked up a copy out of curiosity. I would recommend it, the man really knows the country like the back of his hand and has his finger on the cultural and political pulse of the different countries in the world. His #1 pick on where to be in a WW3 type scenario is the United States, outside of major population centers.

A true SHTF type scenario will unfold so fast that you won't have time to hop on a plane to Switzerland. I think people should be prepared to take care of themselves without government intervention, but I don't think it's too healthy to fixate on moving to Switzerland or Singapore out of SHTF fear - unless you have other reasons. My philosophy is to develop a plan for wherever you happen to be, and outside of that continue to focus on creating something positive with your life rather than reacting to a potential negative SHTF scenario possible unfolding in the future.

The problem with Switzerland is its surrounded by countries where if shtf you'd be fucked. So everyone would probably want to pack into Switzerland and Switzerland would be fucked as well. I think Brazil and a lot of South America would be a good option. Also Colorado, in the mountains. The only problem is the cold weather. Where I'm at now is loaded with rich people. A lot of them would probably come here if SHTF. I feel like this is a good spot. The 3 places you wouldn't want to be in the US are Hawaii, Florida (Espeically Southern FL), and NYC.

Why those last three?

Hawaii has over 60% of everything on the island shipped in and it's 2000 miles away from anything. If you live in Southern Florida, it takes at least 8 hours to even get to mainland USA. Those two my friend who is a crazy conspiracy theorist pointed out to me, which makes sense. He has a whole book on this lol. It basically ranks the places from safest to least safe if SHTF, Hawaii and FL came in dead last. I chose NYC because, shit man, that place is so densely packed. If shit hit the fan good luck getting out.

truth here. Canada would be another solid candidate in this regard.

My dad lives up in the Sierra Nevadas. Grows a lot of his own food and keeps a stash of MREs under the house. Has guns. There's tons of wild deer and turkeys up there. His place isn't even that remote; he has friends that live way the fuck out in the boonies, people that are used to being self sufficient. If they have to call the sheriff or an ambulance, it takes hours.

The question is not so much, where would you go? But rather, what would you do? Ever taken a basic survival course? Build a tent? Skin and dress animals/fish? Start a fire?

The middle of America in the rural areas would be a good bet, but if you're in Southern Florida, you're isolated and far away from the middle of the country. There is no going south, east, or west, you can only go north if the situation in Florida goes sour. Remember, Florida has a large population. Think about if shtf and you lived in Miami. You know how many crazy fucks live in Miami? Shit would go bananas there.

Hitting the mountains in Georgia would be a good move, imo. Plenty of hunting and fishing. If the SHTF, I doubt you will be hitting worried about being isolated. You will wish you were isolated but the major things to worry about is safety, food and shelter. I would say protecting your shit will become a number one priority.

I guess it all just depends on the scenario really if the coast guard wanted to lock down the coast. There are lots of different scenarios of SHTF. If it was government inflicted, they would guard the coast.

I would imagine if they really wanted to lock down a coast, they would be using gun boats. I know outrunning gun boats would become a new hobby for you but a lot of people wouldn't take a chance. I see a military lock down if things hit the fan.
