It reeks of a political stunt more than anything. The Govt got in a lot of shit recently by NGOs for publicly admitting it was knowingly sterilizing Israel-Ethio Women via immunizations for many years. That is completely off the charts in today's times if your not a nation nannied China. This move reeks as a way to try and paper over lt.

She is cute and yes you can find way better there white, black, or brown.

I don't think it's anything to do with them wanting to prove they're not superficial, it's probably more to do with the fact that ethiopan Jews have it even worse in Israel than Arabs do.

Yeah there are blacks in Israel, especially in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. I actually got a haircut in a black barbershop in Tel Aviv.

Most of the blacks are Ethiopian Jews. You'll see black guys rocking kippahs which is uncommon anywhere else.

But there's also lots of blacks from Eritrea (some of whom immigrated legally through work and some who sought asylum) and Sudan (Darfur refugees who sought asylum).

Israel is pretty diverse. Kind of like the Brazil of the Middle East.

Yeah since evrey Jewish person gets a right to gain Israeli citizenship then ancient horn of Africa Jews from Ethiopia and Eritrea are able to immigrate there. But it's not all roses and daisies for them, but many actually get religious freedom as back in Africa they got hostilities from Orthodox Christian, or Muslim majorities in their respected countries. It gets dicey because these Ethio Jews are not Ashkenazi Jews, whom are lately European, and well white so you can see how it can become an issue. But there is a religious element to it to, The Ethio brand of Judiasm though smaller in numbers is traced backed way further in antiquity. My uncle school me on this one day but I need to re-fresh, but basically in short there is a underlying racist stigma against them and winds they total 100k plus in Israel and were at the top of the immigration groups the Govt simply did not want to see a majority or sizable population block of them emerge and yield institutional and political power, that is why their was a sterilization program in place for them which was directly tied to them receiving citizenship.

My family is Eritrean Orthodox Christian. There was never antisemitism against Jews though. I've never heard anything bad about Jews, quite the contrary, within my family growing up. I only learned about antisemitic jokes from other groups while in high school. Even Muslims and Christians in Eritrea (and Ethiopia) get along quite well. The only reason the Jews were taken from Ethiopia to Israel was because as the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia was drawing to a close, there were fears within Israel that for some reason the Jews remaining might be used as bargaining chips in exchange for money as the Ethiopian government was about to be toppled. Most of the Jews had already been evacuated during the famine in 1984 in Operation Moses. The remaining Jewish population was almost entirely confined to a section of northern Ethiopia near the Eritrean border.

There is even a synagogue in Eritrea's capital and a cemetery for Jews that is maintained by the only Jew left in the country. His name is something Cohen. I met him a couple years ago in Asmara.


The Ethiopian Jews look no different from the Orthodox Christians in the region and they've done DNA tests and they are more closely linked to Eritrean and Ethiopian Orthodox Christians than they are to other Jewish groups. That's why all of them were forced to do a Halakhic conversion to Judaism the moment they arrived in Israel. But they definitely followed the Torah and had a separate identity.

Absorbing them into Israeli society came at a huge cost to Israel. The Ethiopian Jews were very pastoral and rural people and had no industrial skills or knowledge of Hebrew. But the next generation has assimilated fairly well. I saw a lot of mixed couples in Israel and lots of diverse groups of friends.

When I went to Israel the first person I actually came into contact with was an Ethiopian IDF soldier. She looked like a typical habesha and I thought there would be some rapport when she saw my name on my passport but she was very aloof. Ethiopian Jews tend to be that way. There's not that bond I have when I meet Orthodox Christian ones.

There are lot of Orthodox Christian Eritreans in Israel as well (like 30,000 strong) and they were definitely warm towards me. Some of them have bad situations though because they had to escape the political situation in Eritrea. Israel is really the only democracy in the region and the best place you can live a decent life, even as a non-Jew.

I wouldn't say she's ugly but I don't find her attractive. I wouldn't even guess she was Ethiopian just looking at her face. These Miss beauty pageants rarely ever produce top shelf talent though. It seems like they look at the whole package, not just physical.
