Samsung Galaxy S4
The Samsung Galaxy S4 premiered today. Here is a pretty good run down of it:

http://reviews.cnet.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/

I was looking to get a new phone, and I guess I will wait until this phone comes out. I will probably get it no-contract through Ting. It looks like a slightly larger, slightly thinner version of the S3 with a hell of a lot more software upgrades. What I like most about it is it has additional expandable memory of up to 64gb (with a microSD card) and a high-definition screen and 13mp camera.

Who needs a screen that big?

I see people with S3's. It's a nice phone, no doubt, but damn it's huge. I just want to text some hoes.

True. And the S4 will have a bigger screen than even the S3.

The one benefit I have found of having a big screen phone is you don't need a tablet or e-reader anymore since your phone is now basically a small tablet. You can read e-books on it, watch movies on it, take hi-def pics/videos with it, check e-mail, surf the net, etc... It is basically like carrying around a small and powerful computer with you all the time.

Furthermore, because of Samsung's success with big screens, all new phones in the future will be big screen, so I guess there will be no choice but big screen phones in the future.

No, Roosh, you are supposed to live your life mediated through this piece of electronics, and identify with it as a consumer.

RE: Samsung Galaxy S4
Ive had the Note 2 for several months now and love it. The screen (5.5") looks absurd at first but its great. It only looks funny when you call but I hardly use my phone for that purpose.

Now everybody elses phones just look small, and to me mine looks "normal"

I can attribute one lay in MkE to my phone alone. Lots of people comment on it e.g. "is that a phone?" (moreso when it was brand new). Some girl was texting on her tiny iphone next too me and i said something like "how can you even see on that screen" then planted my monster Note II ontop of hers, complete occluding it. Smile wasted bang about 2 hrs later.

You are right, the S3 does take 64gb microSD cards, but I don't have an S3. I have an older iphone and one thing that pisses me off is the iphone doesn't have additional storage available through microSD cards.

In some ways I am kind of glad that I didn't get an S3 since the S4 will have better software, a better camera, and a better screen than the S3. The only problem now is getting it. I hope there isn't a backlog to getting one.

I think Apple's argument for it's phone size is that you can work it with one finger. The Galaxy phones have too much screen real estate to navigate. So yeah too big for their target market. Women.

I have seen girls who have S3's and they use two hands to navigate the phone, so it is something they could get used to using. Furthermore, there are a lot of "handless" functions on the S4 which mean you don't have to touch the screen as much to pause videos or scroll articles.

There also is an "S3 mini" available right now as well (with a 4 inch screen), so there is always the possibility that an "S4 mini" could be made in the future.

I still have an old ass LG pre-smartphone. I saw a girl at the bar playing with this gigantic smartphone and was like fuck, I can't fit that in my pocket. That's all I want. I said you have a purse to hold that thing. She said "Girls RULE!!!1" I'm assuming this wouldn't be able to fit comfortably in your pocket? I've been looking for an upgrade, but I don't want to be carrying around some massive phone in my pants pocket.

The S3 is pretty damn thin and narrow, and the S4 is a little bit thinner. I was messing around with an S3 that a friend has and it does fit in my pocket, although if I am wearing very slim-fitting jeans I would probably have to carry it in my back pocket "wallet style," so I would not see it as super huge issue unless you are always wearing skinny jeans, in which case anything bigger or thicker than an iphone is probably a no go.

However, there is the "S3 mini" which is the size of an iphone and cheaper in price if you need a smaller phone.

RE: Samsung Galaxy S4
Anybody with a previous Galaxy or Note have any issues with the battery lasting? I'm just curious since the screens are so big if the thing dies fast. I like the expandable memory idea though. Not like greedy apple where if you want more memory you have to spend way more. Smart on Apple but not very consumer friendly.

I have S2. The battery usage is decent. Honestly, I have talked to my friends with other smartphones and almost everybody complains about the battery (iPhones, other androids). Blackberry people do seem to be happy with their battery life but then who wants a crackberry unless you are going for the new Z10.

For me personally, the battery usage is acceptable. Not great, not bad. As long as you install a battery saver app you can get decent usage. When I use the phone a lot (browsing the web, texting, calling, playing games), I get anywhere from 6-8 hours. On the other hand, sometimes I will use the phone moderately and it will last 15+ hours to a full day even.

I have the note 2 which is larger still. No problems whatsoever with pockets even in jeans. Surprising, but men's pockets have always been functional.

Haven't decided yet if I want to keep it.

Battery life is excellent I charge it every three days unless I use it as a desk clock. No problem going out with 20% batt, will last the night even after gps and text. If you need more batteries can be replaced on the fly a true travelers piece. Pity it's so flashy.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It's thicker than the more recent versions, but has a smaller screen, 4.65" if i recall correctly. It doesn't fit comfortably in my pocket, which annoys me. But it complements my man hands. I know for sure I don't need a bigger screen.

Should I upgrade?

When girls don't carry a purse they carry their smartphones in their back pockets. I don't see that happening with these larger phones.

The Galaxy Nexus doesn't fit comfortably in your pocket? Do you have it in a bulky case?

The Galaxy S4 is bigger in its dimensions than your phone since it has a 5 inch screen but it is thinner. When I get the S4 I am not going to put a case on it. I am just going to put a screen protector film on it so that it remains sleek, kind of similar to the screen protectors for the S3:

I guarantee the iphone 6 will have a big screen. I guess chicks will just have to carry purses everywhere they go because all phones are going to get bigger.

It's cool to see what's happening with the new technology, but I really don't need it..

I'll be buying the cheapest smart phone out there that's also quite good, ZTE Blade III.

A little surfing and Spotify and I'm set.
