Tons of dudes play video games, even celebrities who get tons of snatch. I think that it is a problem only if you play so much that you stay in at night instead of go out and meet women.

They're celebrities and rich. I'd say for most guys their time would be better spent working on game, business skills, and other more useful hobbies. Let's say guy A is playing video games 10 hours a week for a year. After those 520 hours what skills has he really gained?

I think ultimately video games are a form of entertainment, people want to be entertained, absolutely nothing wrong with that. I personally just choose other forms of entertainment, so to each their own.

I just play sports games on my xbox after a workout or nights when I'm exhausted. Upon a time I blurred the line between enjoyment and escapism, but now am very moderate about gaming.

I don't see the problem with playing them if you've got other things going on in your life. I pick up girls, I work out, I have a full time job, I see my mates, I'm learning a language. I play video games about 3-4 hours every weekend. No big deal.

I'm not as addicted to games as I used to be when I was a kid. I recently got Devil May Cry HD Collection and only find myself playing 2 levels at a time instead of blitzing through the game like I used to as a kid.

Same for me. After a while I realised that this game is incredibly repetitive and pointless, like most video games. I completely stopped playing video games when I moved to Vienna and started to attend university. There´s no value in it, it´s just wasted time, time you could use to improve yourself, or to get out and experience the real world. I tried to play a few times during summer vacation, but it felt so wrong I couldn´t do it.

Traveling the world, reading good books, perhaps starting a business, that´s what is really important in life. TV, video games, most parts of the internet, many jobs and careers, really most parts of modern society, are just a trap, a gigantic mindfuck. Everything is about making and keeping you passive, a consumer, a drone, instead of being someone who produces, someone who creates, someone who is free and indepenent.

Is it a conspiracy, is there a secret society of jewish masonic east coast based finance Illuminati supervillains? No, I think it´s just a natural historical development, humans are lazy by nature, always searching for the most gain without pain. A lot of people seem to be satisfied with a life like that, maybe not happy, but satisfied, so I see modern culture and society just as a kind of general consensus.
I, however, have decided a long time ago that I want something different. Facing the fact that I have only one life to live (my opinion), and accepting the incredible insignificance I, humanity, even Earth have compared to the vastness of the universe, I decided that the best I can do is to travel the world and experience, see and feel everything this planet has to offer, because it´s the only part of existance I will ever be able to explore, and I don´t have any time to waste.

So I don´t really like video games.

MMORPG's like World of Warcraft where you are invested in a character or online profile rarely become activities done in moderation...I had a friend who got into WoW in high school (incidentally after watching the South Park episode and making fun of it), skipped classes in college to go on raids with his guild, quit, then relapsed when the next expansion came out. Basically became a full-time commitment and addiction. Needless to say his academics suffered greatly (but I think he's doing all right now). I used to play Smash Bros with my roommates on end in college, and I don't play it much anymore, but the skills stay with you and it's always nice to kick some ass when you get together with your friends every now and then.

My X became addicted to WOW, met another guy on the game,( Fellow addict) and she split...Still playing as far as I know. I don't know what the attraction of these games are, all that farming and grinding seems more like unpaid cube farm labor to me.

I have a N64 emulator on my computer and when I'm listening to a podcast or a long video I sometimes play Mario Kart on it.

I also play card games on my phone, hearts, spades, pinochle, gin gummy.

Waste of time once you hit 18. If you're home sick all day and can't do anything else but click buttons in the foetal position that's fine. Otherwise it just enables a lonely existence.

RE: Your opinion on video games?
I spent a lot of my younger teenage years playing video games and don't regret it.
To me, a good video game is the equivalent to a good novel. I also think I learnt a lot in terms of factual knowledge from video games.
Games like GTA Vice City, where you can really see all the effort the developers put into it, really suck you in and take your mind off all the other shit going on.
