Anyone heard of this? Type or paste in a preferably 300 word bit of text, and it tells you if the writer is male or female based on the appearance of certain words or groups of words. May not be a tall order for the erudite group of guys on this forum to tell from a simple read, but methinks it might have some uses...

Good for an estimate, but since most posts here are not longer than 300 words, I am skeptical of its usefulness even to guess.

Could be useful for meltdowns though.

im guessing words such as (feel, like, whatever, okay) are the main tells for it being a woman in that computer algorithm

I'm guessing that the more concise, the more male. My posts have a lot of "gray area" words (such as "a lot"), so that's probably (see, there's another one) why my writing appears to be (haha, guess again) female.

The more qualification, the more female. That makes sense; the reason why I qualify my posts is because I do not care for absolutes.

Entered in the the recent post on ROK by Mangosteen and it was found informally male and formally female, while this Jezebel article written by a dude (http://jezebel.com/5988956/if-people-tal...bout-girls) was informally female and formally male.

I wonder if this thing has any usefulness outside of analyzing writing. Do you think a higher male informal/formal structure when writing or speaking has higher impacts on sexual/political outcomes?

Women definitely try to emulate the formal male, if that's what you're asking. The formal male writing style has authority and power.

I am wondering if a woman's/man's speech is more informally male or female when trying to attract a guy/girl or whether this is something that really doesn't change that much.

If it is conditional...and you could somehow make this an app and record bits of conversation, it could have some predictive power on behavior.
