In a protest of drones to be used on US citizens in the United States Rand Paul a senator from Kentucky is holding up the nomination of the new CIA director. He began just before noon EST and he shows no signs of slowing down.

Excellent move on the part of one of the few politicians in America that actually supports liberty. The fact that these drone assassinations are being waged by a state that at one point stood for personal freedom is an absolute disgrace. Every straight, freedom loving guy should unequivocally be against these extra judicial drone murders, a policy that started in the Bush admin and has been continued by our current nobel peace prize winning president.

The following NYT article is a must read. It discusses the current american policy of extra judicial assassination and states that these guys are plotting the assasination of several teenage girls.

bacon I'm all for what he's protesting against.

However, how does this help him achieve what he's looking for? Unless this will directly prevent these drones it just sounds like a publicity stunt. We should save our praise for when he acts.

Brings national attention to the issue. That is a measure of action, in itself.

well i wouldnt go as far to call it a publicity stunt. its more like a political protest or political disobedience by delaying the nomination. too many congressmen are complicit with gutting of the constitution and what he is doing is drawing attention to that by filibustering the nomination.

I watched large chunks of it today.

It was fucking inspirational.

As of 4:15 Eastern time, he was still going, with some Senators coming in and asking questions to give the guy a break.

I don't agree with everything Rand Paul believes, but his view about the sanctity of the constitution, his understanding of our debt situation, and his belief in individual liberty -- plus the no-bullshit, clarity of his thought -- makes him incredibly admirable.

Rand paul also has a better chance with the female demographic that is into looks. Ron is a fossil at this point and I doubt older people in the future will be elected president. It would be great if they were since they tend to be more solid in beliefs.

Extremely impressive. This is the mettle I like to see from politicians, standing up for uncompromisable values. This guy's on my radar from here on out.
