Hey fellas,

My younger sister has been dating this guy for about 8 months, myself and family suspect he is gay. She is head over heels for him, which makes it quite difficult when we tell her our suspicions.

The last thing I want is for this guy to use up her best years for social proof until he decides to come out.

How would you approach the situation?

If you and your family truly feel strongly about this then start doing stakeouts on the guy. Im assuming at least your mother and father are included in this so that's 3 people right there. Depending on individual work schedules you guys can coordinate who will follow the guy on what day and on what time. Obviously go with a camcorder or some other device that can record video for long periods of time so if this guy does anything suspicious or downright obvious that points out his homosexuality you have it all on tape. You're gonna need many solid examples for irrefutable proof though because your sister's hamster will probably go into overdrive once she catches a glimpse of the tapes.

Dude might not be gay. I've been in the BFs position. People suspected I was gay because I dress very well to show off my physique, my voice (being raised in a household of all women will feminize a voice), my grooming is immaculate, I enjoy dancing, and I'm not interested in traditional male things such as fixing things or watching football.

At first I was slightly offended, but then I didn't care. If only they knew how many women I'd slept with before their daughter/cousin/sister. Found it amusing after awhile.

Lots of guys these days are really camp, there was a lad on our football team who everyone thought was gay and then when we went on tour someone caught him sex skyping with his absolute stunner of a girlfriend. Could it have been an elaborate ruse? Possibly, but I doubt it.

I'm going to go out on a limb here. As a European I find it almost comical how insecure American guys can be about anything that can be perceived as gay. It's almost like a witch hunt, people get hostile and aggressive for the most outrageous reasons. When I'm in the US I'm often the best dressed guy in the room, you have no idea how many times people have asked me as I'm gay as a result.

Very poor rationalization. In this day and age (and country) there's no such thing as "using her best years". What would she be doing otherwise? Putting herself on the dating market in Manhattan trying to land a finance manager?

I think the european men have the wrong view of north american men and who we perceive as gay.

All my friends and I don't think a guy is gay because he is dressed well or even dressed over the top flashy. We think they are gay with their lisps, bent wrists and basically their need for cock in their mouth.

But seriously dude, you can try to out the guy, but maybe he is far too in into the closet that he doesnt even knows that he is gay. But ultimately, thats something for your sister to find out, not you or your family.

The least/best thing you can do, is talk to her frankly about your suspicions, and tell her what you just said: you wouldnt like her to waste her best years on him only for him to come out after that. If she is smart, she will take the hint, understand and decide whether or not she wants to stay with Mr. Fag. Perhaps she is happy being in a sexless relationship with her fabulous bestie.

Then again, if she is not smart enough to realize that, then she is no longer your problem.
