Chick Roomie left instructions on caring for her cats
This sounds insane but chicks are insane.

Just moved in, Norwegian American35 YO roommate a 6 with two cats. Polite, she bought a lot of furniture for apt.

She went away for the weekend skiing, presumably with a guy who's picking her up. She doesn't have a car.

She left a note "Thanks for taking care of the cats." said to make sure they had water. Worst, she said to move the litter box inside for them to use at night.

She didn't ask in advance if we ( there's another guy there) were willing to take care of her cats.

I've signed a 90 day lease which does not include me agreeing to cat care.

I think she just loves her cats so much she can't imagine anyone not wanting to help the darlings.

How do I diplomatically explain I'm not dealing with any litter boxes?

If I'm around and I remember, I'll put water in the bowls, that's not too unreasonable since I think she's going to be cleaning a lot more than me.

Ideas?

You probably don't have any realistic options: cat's gotta shit at some point and it's going to be in your place.

I'd just do it and use this opportunity to make an equally annoying "request" at a later date.

You moved into her place or she moved into yours? I can't tell exactly from what you've posted...you say she bought a lot of furniture for the place like she's moving into your place, but you signed a lease? Confused here...

She leased the place from the landlord and then advertised for roommates, me and the other guy are the roommates.

To be fair, she set the place up really nice, bought couches and decorated it nice and all. Must have taken a lot of time, and use of someone else's vehicle. You get the picture. Spoiled chick used to guys hopping to it when she wants something and now aging out at 35 and still expects it.

She's generally pleasant, but taking care of a bitch's animals while she takes off with her boyfriend or whoever really makes me feel like a fucking servant. It seems really rude that she assumes we'll do it.

Analyzing my own reaction, I'm realizing part of my anger is that she would never ask a guy she was interested in to take on a servant role like that. It's an obvious rejection.

Haha... she's actually been pretty nice until this. Funny thing in her ad...
she put her age as xx but said "looking more like xx-7"

But the truth is she looks xx It's a long fall from the top of being a 8=9 when she was trim and a natural blond blue-eyed Scandinavian to a withering cat lady.

RE: Chick Roomie left instructions on caring for her cats
Come on dude, just do it and talk to her about it afterwards. If she's gone just for a weekend, you only have to clean the litterbox once (and it's easy - just scoop the clumped bits with that plastic thingy - you don't have to touch them - and put them into a plastic bag and into the trash). Likewise, feeding the cats by tossing 2-3 fistfuls of dry food into their bowl takes half a minute. Changing the water in the water bowl is the same.

It's rude of her to do it without asking, so definitely talk to her when she comes back, but I don't think it's a big request.

RE: Chick Roomie left instructions on caring for her cats
If it was me, I would:

- Pretend I never saw the note. In fact I'd leave it where it was. When she comes back and asks, I'd say, "What note?" She can point it out, but I'd still be like "Oh, was that for me? I didn't even read it."

- Put the litter box back outside. I'd be like, "I don't know who was dumb enough to put it inside in the first place."

- Keep the cats out of your room, and let them shit all over the apartment. I'd be like, "Listen, I didn't even know you where away for the weekend. They're your cats, anyway, and you didn't ask me to look after them. What note? No, they're your cats, I'm not picking up cat poop. I'm not a cat poop scooper man."

- I'd act all surprised that she was even away for the weekend, and then ask, "But who the hell was supposed to look after the cats?"

The most important lesson I've learnt in life is that sometimes you have to brave enough to be incompetent. Screw up the cat thing well enough, and she'll never bother you with requests again.

You act like she decorated the place as a favor for you. She did it because she likes it. And I'm sure a lot of beta time and money went into acquiring and moving everything so you should direct your gratitude towards them if anyone. I'd need to see the exact wording of the note. Unless it was apologetic and explained why she hadn't asked in advance, you need to speak to her as you would a small retarded child and explain that her pets are not your responsibility and that you won't be taking care of them in the future unless you are asked and agree in advance. And definitely don't empty the litter box. It is just for a couple of days so she can shovel shit when she returns. Just make sure the cat gets food and water and doesn't shit up your living space.

Okay. Yeah that's not fucking cool. I own two cats and when I need someone to take care of them I reimburse them through buying them dinner or taking them out for drinks. Taking care of pets is a generous favor that I would only ask of my friends, never assume anyone is down to care for them, let alone roommates.

It's general roommate etiquette that even though you live with other people, you let them do their own thing and they let you do yours. If there's an issue, like being too loud or leaving a mess, you talk about it. To me, assuming that you'd take care of her pets is up there with her eating your food or drinking your booze and assuming you're cool with it. Not the end of the world, but that's some bullshit right there.

Just move the shitbox inside, hopefully nowhere near your room, and just let the shit pile up. Give them some fresh water every other day and they'll be fine until she gets back. Definitely let her know that you're not available for her cat care at any point in the future. If she flips on you, start documenting everything in the extreme case that you need evidence to break the lease.

When she gets back just tell her that it wasn't cool, and you won't look after her cats again. Give her a calm icy look when you speak to her.

You should chill with the Cats. Smoke a weed-catnip hybrid joint with them. Give them some salmon, watch the Lion King together. In fact become the Lion King.

Then when the bitch comes home and the cats follow you about like you are mufasa she will flip out.

Give the cats water, but no food. That way they shit less.

Hours before she gets back home, put some caffeine pills in the cats water, and get out of the house. Let her deal with her starved, sped up felines.

this seems like overthinking "alpha dont take bullshit." i would just take care of the cats like a good roommate and somewhere down the line she can do some stupid little favor for you. moving a litterbox takes 2 seconds dude

I agree but only to a point. I've had female roommates before, and all but one of them (who was actually my other roommate's LTR), would do shit like this; bail out and 'leave a note' telling you to do something, make messes and expect it to magically vanish when she gets back, smoke a couple of my buds without asking permission and assume it's cool because 'We're friends, and you always have tons around!', notch a beer out of my 12-pack like it was nothing...

Bitches these days ain't got no class; I guess when you get handouts all your life (from your family, from the government, from men that are fucking/want to be fucking you...), you just think 'It's okay, he's a man and I'm a woman, he'll do it for me.'

As for the assumption that she'll pay him back later with a favor of some type? You're assuming that women operate like men do and pay back favors with favors. At best he gets a 'Thanks for taking care of dicklint and cockadoodle' (this is a semi-attractive single 35-year old with two cats, remember).

Of course the real rub? If she just came to me and asked, 'Yo, I'm headed out for the day, is it okay if you throw my plate into the dishwasher/feed my fish/toss me a joint/let me have a beer? I'll get you back later.' (like a man would do), 95% of the time I'd say 'Yeah, sure'. I'm willing to bet Iknowexactly is the same way.

It's not the act of taking care of the cats, it's that her going off to ride some dick means he's obligated to take care of the cats, the assumption that he, as a man, is required to serve her, a woman, just because she's a woman.

Just pull her aside and say 'I don't really care if you need me to feed wiggles and titmouse while you're out gripping on some poles, but just ask first next time; what would have happened if I had plans?'

If you don't want to clean the litterbox, that's fine. Don't do it.

Don't starve the cats, though. Ain't their fault their master is an airhead.

I'd make sure the cat survives the weekend, but not touch the litter box. There's a good reason for that:

How about me saying "I'm too expensive for you to hire for pet care."

Or.

confine all of the cats and the litterbox and the cat food/water to one room (her bedroom, perhaps) and close the door. for the length of her absence.

problem solved.

Great. The Latin American grad student (3rd roommate) is willing to take care of the cats; I told him I didn't want to do it and he generously volunteered.

I explained to him "I don't want to be involved in her personal life" and that I owed him.

Now I don't have to confront her which I don't like.

I'm not her etiquette tutor, after 90 days I'll never see her again. Just learned the lesson
that if I ever move in with roommates again ( which I don't want to do but somtimes need to in high cost areas)
I let them know "I like <animal type> but I can't take care of pets "because I'm so absent minded."
