I think it is fucked up that Iceland is even thinking of banning pornography:

But hearing about silly proposals like this one reminded me to pass along a link to the following article:

The article describes a political theory called 'The Overton Window'. I think Glenn Beck may have discussed it in the past. So it may be quite famous these days.

Still - it is a useful tactic to be aware of since it explains why people (mainly liberals) propose such stupid ideas. And it helps teach us that no matter how unworkable and ridiculous an idea may be - it can still have the affect of shifting the political centre of gravity against those who rightly oppose it.

Just saw this story - which fits in with the one mentioned before:

People on both sides of the aisle propose ideas that they think will find acceptance. It's not limited to any one ideology or party. The good ideas are usually the ones that are cultivated without respect to social movements or prevailing opinion.
