Manaus isn't that convenient to the rest of Brazil, but still worth coming for a week.

There's 3 things worth doing in Manaus:

1. Doing an Amazon Rainforest Tour.

It's be silly to come to Manaus and not do this. The overall experience is amazing, you will not be let down. I've done tons of outdoorsy and ecotourism and this one really stood out. The guides really know their shit and everything is in English. It's important that you pick a good company to go with. I recommend staying at Hotel 10 de Julio (next to the Teatro, 75 Reals/night) and booking with the tour companies that have offices in the hotel. They are very good, the booking agency we went with is called Iguana tours. We did 3 days/2 nights which ran 450 Reals per person, which includes food.

What makes this better than other eco adventures is the amount of wildlife you'll see (dolphins, pirahna, caymen, monkeys, sloths, tarantulas, and more), the expertise of the guides, and the surprising service and comfort given you're in the middle of the jungle. Like PartyTime said, it's also so peaceful and unplugged you'll start feeling 5x healthier within a day.


2. Bang local chicks.

The overall quality leaves much to be desired, but there are a few hotties to be found and they're attainable. Unfortunately there does not seem to be one area with lots of nightlife options, so you'll probably end up spending big $$ on taxis. However, once you're in the club just do approaches and convey that you're a gringo. If you look good, you'll have really aggressive girls approach you and/or try to grab your cock. Unfortunately these aggressive girls are almost never bangable so stick to approaching. It does not take much game to get laid on the same night here. It's still early, but so far this place has been the easiest place to game in my life by far. What a contrast to Argentina!

3. Shopping.

If you're planning on buying stuff in Brazil and you're already coming to Manaus, do your shopping here. The Brazilian government has designated it duty-free so prices here are about 20% less than the rest of Brazil. The centro area starting at the Teatro going down to the river is filled with vendors for all types of stuff, so if you like shopping, the shopping's good! I'm also a big fan of the guarana shakes, acai, and street meat on a stick. Good grub.


Overall, everything you would want to do in Manaus you can do in a week, but that week would be pretty damn cool!

The city feels much safer than Rio.
I went for a long walk last night and ventured into the more seedy areas alone with no problems. I think its safer here because they dont get too many tourists to mug. Also I don't think there are any favelas, not that I've seen anyway.

Does anyone know what ingredients are in the blended Guarana shakes? They are amazingly delicious and seem very healthy.

Here are the ingredient I know are in there:

1) Guarana fruit extract
2) Ground up cashews
3) Another type of nut
4) milk
5) avocado (not sure if everyone uses this)
6) I taste cinnamon, but not sure
7) Granola
8) Oats

I know there are more ingredients, but I'm not sure what they are... Anyone know?

I know very little about this, but everyone I've heard of who's done this did it in Peru.

Just left Manaus.

4 notches in 12 days, although I only went sarging 4 times. All were SNL.

By the fourth notch, I decided to just sit back and let the girl do all the work. She really worked hard and she had some really good game (appropriate kino escalation, smooth talked for the kiss, nonchalently suggesting a hotel) so I decided to reward her with some cock while I was watching soccer.

That's why I only sarged 4x in a city like Manaus where there's nothing else to do! If I were to do it again, I'd take my chances with the malaria.

I asked around about this. People have heard of it but the place to do that is upriver in Peru.

This sounds very similar to Iquitos peru, a city in the amazon rainforest where the women are supposedly very friendly to foreigners. I will be checking it out early next year.

On my first 2 trips to Brasil, my doctor strongly recommended I take anti-malaria pills not only during my entire time in Brasil but also 1 week before departure and a week after returning. The pills were called Malarone and are on the expensive side, about 4 bucks per pill and I had to take 1 pill a day so each trip would cost me about 2-300 bucks just on those Malarone pills, even tough I never stepped foot in a malaria zone.
Anyways, thanks for your first hand reports from Manaus and I'm looking forward to reading more of your stories, until I finally get to check this place next year.

I took Malarone for my trip to the Philippines as advised by my doc. My sex drive was unhindered. Gringoed do you remember what anti-malarial you took? Would be good info on which too avoid if another drug does affect your libido.

Yes, I bought them in Cordoba, they are Tropicur Mefloquina 250mg. It's a few pills, you take one per day for three days, then one per week after that. On day 4 I felt so sick that I could swear that it was worse than getting malaria. Expensive too.

They were not crazy IMO I plan on going to Brazil for a couple of months and that is something that I would like to do but I would like to find a local to take me out instead of the expensive guides. I enjoyed reading your report about Manaus.
