Its funny how Americans love Canadian Club! That was bum shit around here when I was growing up. Canadian Club aggressively marketed to American's and they have forever loved the stuff, up here its all Crown Royal, Jameson, Jack Daniels or dirty Wisers Rye if your in Western Canada if anybody is trying to grab some basic Whiskey.

CC was always the shit somebody would jack from their grandpa and we would drink it in a park before a dance or something back in HS!

Maker's Mark is one of my favourite bourbons. They don't seem to have too many people on their board that had completed Economy 101 however.

They have High demand/Low supply and their decision is to compromise the product quality!? Never mind the fact that the very name is in honor of the worksmanship gone into making the drink along with the unique wax seal. They could just have raised the prices and moved their product toward a premium segment akin to Woodford Reserve or Pappy van Winkle.

Unbelievable.

Jack Daniels will put the next label down in their higher end labels if they run out. I'm sure all distillers do, which is why I'm hesitant to buy the expensive stuff.

Guess I'm gonna have to run to the local liquor store and hope they've still got a few bottles of 45% ABV Maker's Mark left. If not, I'm never buying it again. Completely unacceptable.

Laphroaig is stored in the old Makers' Mark barrels.

Personally - I am a bourbon guy. I love Jack Daniels Single Barrel. Bulleit Bourbon. Knob Creek. And - when I can find it - Pappy Van Winkle (15 year).

Found a shop recently that has some rarer ones which I never seen here in England. So my project over the next few months will be to work through them.

Lastly - I don't like Scotch myself. But I do love this Johnny Walker advert. It is one of the best adverts I have ever seen.

And I am pissed at Maker's Mark for watering down their drink. It goes against absolutely everything I thought they stood for. But then I am still pissed at Jack Daniel's for doing this as well.

I drink bourbon neat. So - I do notice when they start watering it down.

Also - I don't think I have ever seen a Canadian Rye Whiskey for sale near where I live. But should I find one - would you say it would taste similar to an American bourbon/rye whiskey?

Woodford is always my backup plan.

Might pick up a big bottle of makers at costco before they switch them out. then again, there's always the 46 which I found better for sipping but not as good for mixing.

It would taste similar to an American rye yes, but not bourbon. One of the things I love so much about Whiskey are the different flavors. My taste is always adapting, changing, and enjoying new tastes. Whiskey meets this need better than any other alcohol.

If I had to compare whiskeys in a pinch, I would might get Canadian/ Irish whiskeys mixed up. But that would only be a guess.

If it was, it was a very stupid one. I'm betting that a lot of lifetime Maker's drinkers have already began exploring different bourbons, and I bet that there's more still that haven't heard of Maker's Mark reversing their earlier decision.

Personally I won't be buying any Maker's Mark for a while - I love it, though not as much as some other bourbons I've experienced - but I'm not going to immediately reward them for thinking of fucking around with my bourbon as soon as they realized that it was a bad move. If they stick to their 45% bourbon and don't change it for the rest of the year, I may buy a bottle around Christmas.

Second the Lagavulin 16, my personal favorite... although I've started getting into the Glenfarclas.

At one point I had over 40 bottles of scotch and bourbon at home, but this is all that's left of it now. I'm strangely proudest of the Yamazaki 10 because it was so goddamn hard to find.

Nothing beats this one... a little pricey, but it`s a very distinct smoke taste so 2-3 of these ones should get you started!
