Video has been released of the moment a British road safety campaigner slammed a car into his family home and set it alight, in a bid to stop his estranged wife from scoring the property in a divorce settlement.

Father-of-five Andrew McGarry, 37, has been jailed for eight years over the incident in Boston, Greater Manchester, on July 24 last year, which happened one month after his wife won a restraining order against him.

McGarry was caught on CCTV ramming the car into the $180,000 terrace home he owned with his wife, Heather, before the vehicle burst into flames, the Daily Mail reported today.

The court heard he told onlookers he could "not have hoped for it to go any better".

"She's not having the house," he reportedly said.

Mrs McGarry was home with the couple's three children at the time of the incident but they escaped unharmed.

Mrs McGarry was unable to properly repair the home after discovering an insurance policy had been cancelled before the incident, the court heard.

Probably for setting the house on fire with 4 people in it. His heart was in the right place but he probably should have waited until the house was empty.

Yeah that's a huge overreaction. But I do understand how the ridiculous court system might drive (pun intended) a person to do that.

At least make sure the kids are out of the house, in that case it would have been a cool story.

Yeah it would have been a good story if the kids weren't in the house.. Was he drunk?
