I just booked a ticket back to Scandinavia. I will be going up to Trysil in Norway to do some skiing for a week. I do have a friend (Swedish guy) who works there (with his girlfriend) but if anyone has any first hand info on the skiing, nightlife there pitch in.

By the sounds of it, its a bit of a scene there and it attracts all sorts of guides and instructors from all over the world. So I guess the usual scene will apply, but (I am hoping) with better looking women then the ones I encounter in Whistler.

I will be there the third week of February. Deep dark winter. In Norway.

Sometimes I need to give my head a shake.

You're from Canada and you're going skiing in Norway?! The rockies are the best mountains in the world to ski. Europeans would come over all the time and tell us how great our snow was in Aspen. From what I hear the mountains aren't very big in Norway. But they also aren't as expensive as the US. I was surprised to fin that in Switzerland, which is expensive as all hell (Norway may be one of the only places more expensive), the lift tickets were only something like $60 compared to Aspens now $120. But it should be a cool experience dude, have fun and let me know how it is.

Yeah I know. Leaving the Coast Mountains to Norway seems ass backwards but the experience is what I am after. I had this plan when I was a teenager to ski all the major mountain ranges in the world. Then I learned more geography and realized just what a daunting task that is, but if I hit Norway its just one more place to tick off the list.

I did some digging around on Teton Gravity today and found some info. It looks like a decent place, and can be really good if the snow gods cooperate. The elevation is low, but so is the alpine. This is good for the back country access; no bushwacking.

I will bring my avalanche gear and check out some of the huts that were recommended. $3 a night is a steal if I plan for an over night tour.

Awesome man, sounds like you're gonna have a blast! While you're over there, I'm sure it wouldn't be too expensive for a flight to Switzerland, Italy, Austria or France to knock out some more mountains as well. I hear the Alps are real steep, but I don't her many good things about the snow. I definitely want to hear back about how it is. You ever ride in Colorado? I still haven't made it to BC or Canada period, but I really want to check it out some day.

I managed to tick off Italy and Austria last year, and Switzerland a few years back. I considered the Alps as a whole, one place on the list. I guess the Julian Alps (in Slovenia) could be considered part of the range as well, but not technically.

I loved Austria, I think it had the best potential for hard charging. I was up the Kitzteinhorn in one of the best winters in 50 years, and while it was amazing, it could not touch Revelstoke (my favorite). You are right though, Europe is steep, exposed, and high. European skiers have big balls to be able to rip some of those lines in those conditions.

What really set Europe apart from North America is the ski culture and apres ski. Also the price (40euro lift tickets, 3eu for 500ml beers) is a nice break from the $105 whistler tickets (Canada is $80 min).

No, I have just been to the places around the Pacific NW, Mt Baker, Mt Hood Meadows and Montana (Big Mountain). I go to Mt Baker a lot. Colorado and Utah are high on my list, we chatter every year about an epic winter long road trip......
