What are some common jobs that you can't believe someone can make a career out of? HR comes to mind but maybe there's more to it than it seems?

I know so many girls that think they're gonna make it as models or actresses and put up with shitty depressing jobs in retail or at bars and restaurants to free up time for their auditions. Pathetic. By the time they realise they've not got it, they're past it or they just never had it, it's too late to get something "real" because they have a CV of shite.

If they've got a good head on their shoulders, they could use all the exposure (more the bartending than than the modeling) to marry a guy with enough money to make this a decent strategy. Unfortunately, most of them don't have a good head on their shoulders.

Seriously though, any job where a girl has to pick up the phone is a pretty bullshit "career" and is mainly for those women who have had kids and are bored at being at home alone while their kids are at school/grown up. Secretary, PA, receptionist, all that stuff. They're basically the bitch jobs doing everything everyone else tells you to do.

HR, as loathed as they are, are crucial. They're the first step in defending a company from bullshit employee lawsuits.

Women don't make good professional cooks. I've got one right now kicking ass, but it's something I see once every several years.

Actually, I got a good one; right down the street from me on Sunset Blvd they just opened a "blowdry bar". Women go in and get their hair blowdried. Not washed, not cut. Blowdried. That's it. They pay for this. But then, the people doing the blowdrying are gay men, not women. Go figure.

They tend to concentrate in law and government - careers that are heavy on ass kissing, very PC and can survive without having to rely on merit, productivity, creativity, any other positive qualities.

HR can be an effective and crucial department or a detrimental force, slowing a company down with endless sensitivity training, new rules and ever-changing policies. I have dated a girl who did the latter and pretty much made up new "initiatives" on a weekly basis to create more paperwork and justify her own position.
