perhaps some of you can help with this, or have some suggestions
i often have to visit my elderly parents, a few times a month generally
it's an old house, and no matter how much i try to air the place, it retains a kind of musty smell
the problem i have though, is that everytime i come back to my city afterwards, my clothes smell (and my body too, to some extent)
it's not an overwhelming smell, but it's there, and a couple of people(both of them women) have mentioned it to me
they described it as an 'old folks home' or 'old people' smell

i wash every day and i wash my clothes regularly but this musty smell on my clothes (and on my body) is hard to shake, if often takes a second shower to shift it, and i'm constantly washing my clothes as a result
i try to wear 'old' clothes when i'm going to see my folks, so that at least i'm not stinking up my nicer clothes, but that's not ideal either, especially on the way back to my city, as the 'old' smell tends to transfer into whatever car i'm in as well, not good

as i have to visit my folks regularly, am gonna have to come up with an effective solution for this
must be some of you guys with elderly parents/relatives who've experienced this? if so, how did you deal with it?
has to be a better solution than what i'm doing at the moment

A combination of vinegar and baking soda (not at the same time) can nuke most smells. Soak your clothes in a dilute white vinegar solution then rinse them in a baking soda solution to get rid of the vinegar smell. Wash everything after you get home from your grandparents house and use a dryer sheet. If the smell is clinging to you personally you can try washing your hair with vinegar as well.

thanks, yeh i read some stuff today about baking soda and vinegar
and citrus fruits can also help apparently
will give all of the above a go and see how it goes

Step 1) Go to thrift shop and buy clothes to wear to grandparents
Step 2) Go to grandparents wearing said clothes
Step 3) Before returning to car, grab stealthily stashed clothes that you hid before you started and run to the nearest truck stop for a shower
Step 4) Have a shower, 'cause you're probably going to need one after all that running
Step 5) Put on clean clothes
Step 6) Burn old clothes, taking care not to let them touch you, so as to prevent it's stench further penetrating and spreading
Step 7) Hitch a lift back to your car
Step 8) Return to your home in said car.
