I've never been to SA, and I'm interested in diversifying my travels to a modern and stable location.

VE seems like it has a nice coastline, and there's property with tourist attractions.

VE seems like is needs to fully capitulate and hit rock bottom in order for a more stable regime to diversify their economy. This could take 10 years, because each stage will need to need to transform the previous mindset.

I think your answering your own question, Venezuela is in rough shape it probably hasn't hit rock bottom yet. Once it does, a few years later might represent a good opportunity. Though if your looking for a stable location, Venezuela is the last place I would consider.

If and when Venezuela gets out of the gutter it will be a risky investment for those who want to get in.

Neighboring Colombia seems to have rebounded with tourism and recent peace accord could attract more foreign investment. They're at polar opposites of the spectrum. One is spiraling into chaos, whereas the other is starting a new chapter with peace and hope.

This is also on my radar, although I'm not a huge fan of Latin culture. CO girls seem to be worth a gander.

The people rejected it in a referendum. So the government shuffled some bits and pieces around, came out with a newly minted version and told the people they weren't going to get a chance to fuck it up this time, thanks very much. It will probably end up being fast-tracked through congress.

Maduro essentially recalled all 100 Bolivar bills in circulation and said they wouldn't be valid anymore after the end of the week. This was last week or early this week and it's in effect now. So what she said is correct. Totally fucked move by the president, especially because the 100 is their highest denomination bill and they were late circulating the new 200 Bolivar bills. People literally couldn't buy anything because the 100 was so common.

Edit: Maduro actually just announced that the 100 Bolivar bills are valid again until January 2nd....this dude is seriously the biggest fucking idiot.

Haven't been myself, but I'm obsessed with Venezuela I think, and can say that the whole county is extremely fucked and extremely dangerous. Merida may even have more problems with food and supply shortages because so much of the supplies that the country does get, go to Caracas.

I'm so down to go check it out....one day when it's safer and under control again. No way would I go there now knowing what I know about the country and the situation.

Merida is about 1/5th the size of Medellin so its not really a good comparison. But yes it used to be one of the safest areas of Venezuela...not sure about now though.

I keep thinking that once Venezuela has a change in government and we see one year of positive progress it will only be up from there.

Very true and the murder rate speaks for itself. There are also a lot of the murders going undocumented I've read so the number would be even higher. Its one of those situations that's been at a boiling point for too long..something has to happen.
